Hmm, I think there's more chance of me getting a positive response to my Jessica Alba marriage proposal.

PS. What's a restraining order.....

Well, I suppose it depends on one's perspective.

But yes - perhaps a little pompous.

On the other hand - nobody else takes baseball seriously - so it is the world series. But any time you folks want to start playing - the door is always open.

There's club football (towns and cities) and international football (nations). There was previously a Home Nations tournament involving the four UK nations but for varying reasons it died out in the early 80s. Now all compete in European and World touraments.

It gets confusing as you don't have to be born in a country to represent them.

Btw, this Arsenal you speak of must be some new team.

Yes, we allow our Canadian brethren to join us.

I'm more puzzled by why it is that the two major sports in the States, baseball and basketball, aren't played anywhere near as much by anyone outside the United States - and where they or something similar are played a lot, they are mainly played as schoolgirls' games like rounders and netball.

But I never understood organised sports anyway, so who am I to comment?

Steve
Rounders and netball....

Baseball is a terrific game. I don't understand why the rest of the world is not interested. Our football is complex, and not my game. But baseball is first rate. I am Yankees fan...but this is not the place...

I have asked my questions and will now shut up and observe.

This is the most British section of this British forum and it is like trying to read code. Perhaps it would be the same for you guys reading a baseball thread on an American forum.

All compete? Interesting.

Well said Bats, can't be easy for you either! I thought Barnsley were superb, what a terrific game for the neutral. The last 15 mins or so when they were blocking, tackling and running themselves daft was really superb. Somehow I think you might have a new manager at the Bridge for next season.

Bad day for me too Aldershot went down 3-1 at Ebbsfleet (that's Gravesend & Northfleet as was), in the first leg of the F.A Trophy Semi's. At least we can have another bash next Saturday though

After all the FA Cup shockers it's now my teams turn to compete.
The mighty Baggies.

Now that Man.U. and Chelsea are out (could it be the game after Champions League curse again?) I really think that West Brom. could go all the way this year. Exactly 40 years since they last won the cup.

Come On You Baggies!

Dave.

I'll watch a live game, Gridiron or Baseball, if I'm winding down after a late shift....no allegiances, but, I imagine, like soccer, it means more if you're there at the game....
Baseball will always be a bit odd to us Brits, it was played over here, as 'Baseball', particularly in southern country areas (Where your Founding Fathers came from) in the 18th century, but cricket took over in the late 18th/early 19th centuries, and baseball became rounders and looked down on as a kids, particularly girls, game. In the eighteenth century cricket was popular in the States too, but Baseball eventually won out.
We should start a cricket thread...but perhaps not today. Did you know the reason why Britain was without a late-18th Century revolution, like so many other countries, was down to us playing cricket??

Bit of a Bay Window, what??
