Is this the same mighty reds who have failed to score at The Bridge under Benitez.

You may all hate him, but JT and his mate Carvalho are two of the best defenders in the country and, with the exception of Gerrard and Torres, L'pool haven't got many of the class of Essien in their side either.

1-0 to The Blues ....

Bats,
Good to see you in full flight.
Pity you are off-course though!
While it's true that Liverpool under Benitez haven't scored at the bridge, these records don't last forever...matches are won on in the cut and thrust of battle on the pitch - not in books of statistics. Liverpool have a knack of using players on the night who rise their game above their natural level and deliver when the chips are down. You managed to miss mentioning Jamie Carragher, the very definition of dependability, Durk Kuyt whose game and goals have been crucial in the recent Euro campaign and goalkeeper Pepe Reina (remember his penalty saves at this very fixture last season?)....Judging by last night's game John Terry needs Carvalho to sweep up his own mess at times. Chelsea's big guns need to blast at the same time next week. I am afraid for you Bats that instead of a cannon you will only see a pea shooter!

... and matches aren't won by talking up a good fight either. Carragher and Kuyt are reliable players but neither are in Essien's class. That man is superb at full-back, centre-back and in midfield. Carvalho is indeed a top drawer defender, I rate him much higher than JT (if only he were English). I am concerned by our lack of goals at the moment but one could be enough and we should be able to manage that. L'pool need at least one and that will be difficult, especially if Cech maintains the form he showed last night.

I just hope it comes down to a proper result ... no disputed goals or penalty shoot outs. It should be one hell of a match!

This usually happens when they are at home but I'm looking forward to Liverpool issuing the rally cry and their last hurrah.. I think I'll watch 'Charge of the Light Brigade' to get me in the mood

Maybe Liverpool could try and borrow Kayode Odejayi from Barnsley, he sorted those 2 out in the cup, ``They didn`t like it up `em Mr Mannering``

P.S Only joking Bats, I`m with Edward G on this one; it would be nice for the quiet man to triumph; and put to bed all the Special One baloney. although having said all that, being a Northerner I`ve got to root for Liverpool.

Yeah,
Would be great if it were a thriller won by a well taken goal and played in the spirit that the game can rise to on occasion. I'm getting nervous already.....

I'm as mad as hell and I'm not gonna take it anymore!

That's the same Barnsley who beat Liverpool!

We were dire at Barnsley .... me and m'boy could've beaten them that day ... on our own.

All square at the Nou camp ,and although United (offensively) didn't really show up tonight I am quitly confident we will get through to the final.

I bet you are hoping we play that badly on Saturday bats

I personally think Carvalho is a better defender than Terry , and I think you miss him more when he's out which luckily for you isn't often . I would go as far as to say he is arguably the best central defender in the Premier league,I think he edges Vidic because he has a bit more to his game ,and links the play like a midfielder at times .

Don't take it personally Bats but I wish you no luck at all on Saturday , although I hope you win on Wednesday as over the season Chelsea have been a better team than Liverpool

I May be getting older ,but I refuse to grow up

Good game i thought. Utd very disciplined in defence, Hargreaves & Scholes

standouts for me. Hopefully our attackers will perform better in the 2nd leg,

Rooney & Tevez a bit subdued. Should be interesting on saturday!

We've been in more dire situations with Milan and Olympiakos, frankly I think staring down the barrel is more suited to us. If Chelsea don't up their game from Tuesday we might be able to nick something.

I'm half suspecvting Chelsea to throw in the Premiership towel and rest Drogba against United.

Barca had all the possession but the United defense subdued them.
I didn't find the United attack very inspiring though.
Ronaldo was out of sorts and I just hope United do not rue that penalty miss by the lad. An away goal would have been excellent to take back to Old Trafford.

Dave.

I didn't see the match last night but I saw the penalty miss on TV this morning. I reckon CR was still in the dressing room that early in the game. The second one was also a penalty but you get nothing for a pair - not in that game!

Saturday should be a corker ..... I don't have SKY and am taking m'boy out for the afternoon which is probably a good thing. Wednesday should be a good 'un too ....... fingers (arms, legs, toes) crossed we should get through.

RC is a super defender ..... I don't Avram would dare rest Droggy!

Containment of Barcelona without really breaking sweat.
Barca's tactics were to play and press high up the park and thus not allow United to play their way out of what seemed to be like a football cage.
The penalty was so early and sudden that I thought Ronny would miss.
Henry looked their most dangerous player when he came on.
The return at OT is destined to become a great game as I feel Bacelona's defence
will be tested a lot more.

I feel a draw would be a great result on Saturday, and with Vidic back, our defence will have to be resolute.
The pressure is more on Chelsea than United, but I can't see Chelsea losing this one.
If they it will be a huge psychological blow for their return leg encounter with Scouse.
