We deserved the half-time lead but were dreadful in the second half. We were lucky to hold out for extra time. In the extra time I think we outplayed them and deserved the win. The disallowed goal was offside x 4 but the penalty was the correct decision. Personally I think Hyppia dived for their penalty shout and what a howler from Cech.

Well done Avram ..... and I even shed a tear for Big Frank.

I wish I had claws.

Justice done I think. There can't have been anyone begrudging Frank his penalty....and I'm hoping the media and the Chelsea fans get behind Grant....since he joined Chelsea they have out-performed everyone in the Premiership.

Bit of a Bay Window, what??

Over the two legs I think the end result was justified .
I thought the referee got the major decisions right , he could have given a penalty for the Hyypia incident as contact was made . I don't think he dived Bats ,I think he decided to go down when the contact was made but fell too slowly (I've seen trees fall quicker )
The game was superb ,and Liverpool can hold their heads high as I don't see what more they could have done ,they played well.It is a testament to the three English teams in the semis ,that they had a strong backbone of British players
I am glad Frank junior came through Ok ,It was a brave decision to take that penalty ,I said to the wife ,if he misses this it could destroy him.Seeing Frank senior in the stand I got the impression it was more relief that jnr scored than how important the goal was to Chelsea.
We still have domestic issues to sort out Bats ,but looking forward to beating you in Moscow. I am going to OT on Saturday ,and for once I am looking forward to an end of season game that matters ,so the breakfast at the Abergeldie cafe Shudehill , should taste better than usual , and I hope to be toasting victory in "The Old Monkey " on Portland street later ,so don't expect any posts on Saturday night I'll be painting the town red because believe it or not mrs smiffy will be in Barcelona ,hows that for irony ?

I May be getting older ,but I refuse to grow up

I think we all did Bats. It took a lot of courage for Lamps to step forward like that.

Congrats to Chelsea, the much better team in the second leg.
I think master schemer Rafa was too conservative in the first half and let Chelsea run things. Surprised that Crouch didn't feature at some stage in the game.

Should be a great final. I still feel United may be destined to win because of the connection with the 50th anniversary of the Busby Babes tragedy.
It will be close though.

Dave.

......and to think that if Riise had not put that ball through his own net in the final minute of the first leg it would now be Liverpool going to the final in Moscow.
That's how close the two teams have been.

Great games though.

Dave.

To echo what was said earlier, I think Benitez' comments on Drogba diving pre-game fired him up beautifully.....another own-goal there....

Nice gesture of Steve Gerrard and Liverpool in giving flowers to Frank Lampard in memory of his late mother.

congrats to United and Chelsea on getting to the final. However far more important is the news that Keith Edelman is leaving Arsenal as md to "seek fresh challenges" whatever that may mean.In my memory no md has ever resigned his position so it could well be significant.

Welcome To Highbury The Home Of Football
