When I was on holiday I went to Newcastle and the football talk in one of the pubs was all about them 'deserving' Champions League football as if they had a divine right to be successful. It was so sad ..... after a glass of OJ and a plate of grub for the boy we were off.

My next door neighbour is a Spurs fan and he's just as bad .... at least when Chelski were crap we knew they were crap!

They're both very similar; haven't won a major competition in decades but have some pretension to being a European giant. I thought Spurs may have closed up but they appear to have spent money reinforcing an attack the was already solid - and now have shortcomings in midfield. Newcastle will be more dogged (Dogs of War) under Big Sam but will probably lack the finesse to go from top 7 to top 4.


Always had a soft spot for Spuds as my late dad supported them. He never lived there but was a Greaves nut.

Did you think so? I can see all 4 English team topping their group - Celtic might scrape 2nd but I can't see Rangers making the cut.

Porto are strong and Besiktas away wont be easy for Liverpool. Chelsea usually make hard work of it against Spanish teams and Schalke looked pretty good last year. ManU have Roma and Lisbon, neither of whom are gonna be pushovers, and they have a trip to Eastern Europe. I think Arsenal may have the trickiest one ... two trips to Eastern Europe and a hostile atmosphere in Greece. I reckon they'll all qualify but I think it'll be tougher than you think. I do agree it'll be goodbye to Rangers and possiblt Celtic too. Should be interesting.
