I think Arsenal may have the trickiest one ... two trips to Eastern Europe and a hostile atmosphere in Greece. I reckon they'll all qualify but I think it'll be tougher than you think. I do agree it'll be goodbye to Rangers and possiblt Celtic too. Should be interesting.

Nah, the Arse's'll be fine - what wiv another Russian wanting a piece of the action in the premiership. Eastern Europe will be a doddle after Ivan takes over.....

Man.U. may have thrashed Roma last time but I have a funny feeling that it will not be a walkover this time. United have had a bad habit in the past of losing vital Champions League games at home.
Their current defense does not look strong enough to conquer Europe this season.
A backline that includes the likes of Ferdinand and Brown never looks completely confident against strong attacking teams. They are always likely to make errors.

I think Liverpool are again England's best chance of winning the trophy.

Have to agree with you Mr Bats. Went up there with Brentford the day after the Twin Towers attack and we outplayed them for most of the match. Owusu put us one up in the first half and it stayed like that until the last quarter of an hour. They brought on Bellamy for extra time and with Brentford pushing for a win he scored a hat trick on breakaways. Before the game their fans had been more or less writing us off as not being in with a chance and some even arrogantly bragged of biggest ever win. Ha ha! We shocked them, They didn't like me asking why there is a myth about Newcastle fans being world's best when they were getting less than nine thousand when they were bottom of division two! Don't see them turning up in their droves for European Cup games either.
As a little aside, a copper told me the last time ANY fans made as much noise as us at St James' was when ORIENT played there. Premier fans don't know how to make a proper atmosphere was his comment.

I used to go to see Brentford about 30 years ago. They rarely got out of div 4.I remember the toilets as about the most primative of any league club i had been to.By the way i still have many of the programmes if anyone is interested.I remember them playing "Buffalo Girl wont you come out tonight" over the tannoy. It has always stuck in my memory.

True about the toilets! BUT I went to Spurs not too long back and there was nowhere to wash your hands after the loo!!! Disgusting. I went into the ladies to wash them LOL - well it was empty as the game was going on at the time. But that was at a top flight club. Shocking.

At the risk of this becoming a conversation, a couple of Arsenal mates from Camdens Cape of Good Hope were impressed that we had bars of soap in soap dishes at Griffin Park LOL.
Spurs ain't that bad under Jol ( I know I know LOL), the biggest compliment I can give them is that they play almost like Arsenal footballing wise LOL. Ducks head again.

Were you wearing a raincoat at the time?

There may be no basins in the bogs but at least at the Spurs they do leave those small round yellow soaps in the urinal for the supporters to use.

DB7

Your Dad was a very good judge, Greaves was without argument the greatest goalscorer since WW2, "the Fagin of the penalty box" he used to pass the ball into the net. A truly great player, unlike some today who supposedly attain that staus, but aren't fit to lick the boots of the truly great ones. What a player!!

Batman

Remember Maurice Norman well, signed from Norwich. Started as a right back and progressed to England Centre Half and played for Spurs in the Double Team of 1960/61. Very solid player who unfortunately broke his leg in a friendly against the Hungarian national team in 1965 and never played again. Had that not happened Jack Charlton may not have progressed to England centre half in '66.

Two outstanding players from a great football era, who left us with some wonderful memories.
