Hopefully Big Phil will bring Nuno Gomes.

Something for fans from the city of Liverpool, but not apparently for their Birkenhead counterparts.

I also reckon Droggy will be the move soon, he wants away and Scolari has said he will have a bit of a purge. I hope he can persuade Carvalho to stay though.

What we need are.........
  • a really good striker (or 2) to replace Droggy, Sheva is past it and Pizarro has lost all confidence in himself through lack of games. Kalou is getting better but is way off being the finished article.
  • a good left back, oh yes, we have one, Wayne Bridge, but he never gets a look in these days. Cole is past his best and we have three international right backs!
  • a really good winger (or 2), Malouda and SWP are not up to the job.
  • the midfield is pretty strong but we need strength in depth and Sidwell ain't it.
As you say not a surprise - I think it is however more important to keep hold of Drogba - I can't think of anyone who could replace him. The midfield can take the loss of Lampard - Essien,Mikel, Ballack and what looks like Deco if all the rumours are right - I suspect Lampard has been given the green light for that reason, If Deco was not coming Lampard would not be leaving.

Shevchenko is unselable, I think Makele's on his way to a French side as well and Sidwells off to Aston Villa last I heard?

You mention wingers - it's a shame we got rid of one of the best in the world - Robben was probaly the outstanding player on the Dutch side and he was missing for the Russia game and we all know what happened there - Chelsea's worst decision in years that one, all because he fell out with Mourinho or vice versa. Time for Joe Cole to really take the bull by the horns - he should get the freedom with Scholari.

It's been quite up until now - how nice of a Liverpool fan to keep us abreast of the latest Chelsea headlines now there's a novelty for you.

I don't think replacing Lampard will prove much of a problem but if Drogba exits too it might be a cause for concern as physical strikers capable of leading the line are thinner on the ground. Just pinch Adebayor.
Adebayor has apparently decided to stay with Arsenal.

How about Crouch?

Dave.

He'd be a good squad player but that's not what he wants. He wants to be top banana but he isn't in the same class as Drogba. Pavlyuchenko looked good but he hasn't proved himself over the long haul.

No one is as classy as Drogba at diving, cheating and throwing his toys out of the pram.

I think Crouch is Pompey bound isn't he?

I can think of at least two ... Steven Gerrard and Christiano Ronaldo.

Well I'm happy, an irresistible force versus an immovable object but the best team throughout the tournament won. Coudn't be happier for El Nino either.

Well done Spain .... fully deserved winners of the match and the tournament, it could have been 4-0 or 5-0 easily. The Germans were awful, a total inability to create a decent chance in the full 90 minutes and two really dodgy central defenders, for a moment or two I thought maybe Titus Bramble had sneaked into their defence!

Well done Spain!

For me the match was spoilt by players, from both sides, feigning near fatal injuries, presumabley to get their opponents sent off...............?

If that's what world class football is about, God help us all!

.....You couldn't hear it, if they were shooting at me with howitzers!

Viva Espagne!
Such a refreshing sight to see wonderful one touch football executed with radar like precision. A brilliant team effort, and each player was brimming with confidence after the initial shaky start.
Aragones continual touchline antics gave the impression he would expire at any moment, and even at the end when he was hurled skywards by the squad during celebrations, you thought it would all be too much for him.
I predicted that the Germans wouldn't create anything from open play, and other than the Puyol slip and the Ramos howler early on they never looked like threatening Castillas' goal. Even their set pieces were a disaster.
Angela Merkel could have donned a red shirt last night and waltzed past Metzelder and Mertesacker ,both of whom on last night's evidence, looked about as likely to keep a clean sheet as the incontinence ward at Vienna's Stadt Hospital.
As other replys have suggested the score flattered the Germans. It could have been 4-0.
Football won the day to use a well known Mottie cliche, whose voice incidentally will (with his impending retirement) no longer grace international football.

When was the last time any of us could say that about an England team .... Euro 96?

I'd agree with you on that one. Although I do think England would have beaten the Argies in '98, had Beckham not been sent off.
