He's also simply a very mixed-up guy who lacks in personal responsibility. I was chuffed when he signed for Liverpool but early doors there were worrying rumours circulating about his attitude and behaviour. Given his pace, height, skill and eye for goal, he should have had loads of England caps but managed but a handful. A terrible waste of talent.

My favourite Stan story is that after losing the FA Cup final to Utd he spent the evening sha**ing the manager's daughter!

A good draw for all the English sides I think; which means a couple are likely to meet up again.

Agreed, but it is encouraging to see him get his act together and not go down the path to self-destruction as many others have.

I find his contributions to TalkSport really interesting and he has a lot of sensible ideas about the modern game and his phone in show is one of the best.

ps - please, not Chelsea v Liverpool again!

Champions League is only any good when the knockout stage starts. Give me a Premier League game any day.

Dear Lord, how did Man City get away with that....played abysmally, scored with their first real attack of the game in the 93rd minute, and went through on penalties after a goalless extra time....very poor indeed.

Bit of a Bay Window, what??

Celtic to face Man Utd in Europe.

Champions League holders Manchester United were drawn with Scottish champions Celtic in the group stages of this year's competition.

The four English sides were guaranteed to be kept apart after being made top seeds, but Celtic could have faced any one of them after being drawn in the third pot of clubs.

They will get their chance to test themselves against the English champions in two mouthwatering clashes.

.

There's a lot of dignity in that, isn't there? Going out like a raspberry ripple.

Liverpool's stadium has now been delayed due to financial problems, the American owners now saying

"We will use this period productively and revisit the plans for the stadium to increase its capacity to 73,000 seats."

If they can't find the funds to finance a 60,000 seater how will they find funds for increased capacity?

I don't know who's interested but I was at Upton Park yesterday and did Paul Ince get an earful ! When the Rovers' coach arrived it was greeted with chorus upon chorus of Judas" "show us the silver" etc. During the match there was chant after chant aimed at Ince only two of which didn't contain an expletive. Another chance for my American son's to witness some Anglo Saxon community singing. The air was blue, but watching Match Of The Day you would never have guessed.

Default Man City take over

I see that Manchester City are about to be taken over by middle eastern gent with loads of money and has promised to bring a $60 million dollar footballer with him and turn City into a top club within 3 years.

I've just watched the news on the beeb 24 and it's reputed to be Dimitar Berbatov as Spurs have just signed two Russian strikers. It will be a shame to see him go there but I bet Sir Alex and the ManU board must be as sick as pigs if it happens.
