1) Yes
2) in the seventies, mainly. Newcastle United does have the advantage of being the only game in town; I think that the events of the last few weeks may shed a few seat sales for a while, don't you??

I beieve that calling Newcastle the 'new City' is meant to be an insult .... the insult being that Newcastle are now more of a laughing stock than City.

Mike Ashley is not a real football fan. He took over the ownership of Newcastle United without having a clue on how to run a football club and now the club and it's fans are suffering the consequences.

I feel really sorry for the many loyal fans of the Toon, they deserve much better.

Dave.

I agree ,these people treat clubs like toys and should leave the running of football clubs to those who know the game.

I know Terry has a big gob which he should keep shut, but he's no worse than some of the other Premiership twats .... you had a big enough one at Fulham in Malbranque. I to miss the era of Carlie Cooke, Osgood, Bonetti et al.
I would be interested to hear of examples, I cannot remotely recall any agro or lip or parking in disabled bays from Steed Malbranque.

We must have watched different Malbranques!

I was referring to his on the field misdeeds, such as over the top tackles, general all round sneakiness and large doses of gobshite!

What players get up to off the field doesn't interest me, they are human beings and mess up like the rest of us, it's their on field performances that interest me.

I also find it amusing that when Terry's misdeeds are reported in the media people refer to these reports ad nauseum .... whereas, in general, media reports are dismissed as total bollocks.

A slight case of double standards?

This piece was included in one of the media reports about the car park incident ...

"Terry. with wife Toni and one-year-old twins Georgie and Summer, signed autographs before driving away last Friday.

Last night an aide said Terry was sorry and pledged not to do it again."

What a nasty man he must be, he does something that I see many people do every week in our local supermarket, signs autographs for people 'outraged' by his behaviour and then he apologises.

Penfold, sir - I would not doubt you for a moment, so you'll excuse my shock that City used to pull in 50,000 - the Francis Lee era I assume. While I'm assuming, I would not be suprised to see attendance drop for the Geordies, As a Hammer's fan I have my own issues to deal with, at this point my only suggestions egarding the Upton Park Board and it's associates would have me mancled and put in the Tower !

Man City's all-time attendance average is only around 2500 below Newcastle's...and the all-seater Maine Road was tiny. As a standing venue, its record was 80,000+, in the 30's, the biggest in England outside of London.

Penfold, Pre WW2 football matches, must have been spectacular. I used to work with an old fellow who went to Chelsea regularly between the Wars, he said they would have the best part of 90,000m at Stamford Bridge and nearly everyone wearing a hat or a cap.

The biggest crowd I was ever in at Stamford Bridge was for a cup-tie in the early 70s and there was 53,000 people there. At Carrow Road in Norwich, for Div 1 relegation tussle with Palce in 1973 there was nearly 40,000 in the ground, that was a bit of a crush. Before WW2 Norwich used to play before crowds of approx 70,000. Incredible!

Anyone watch the Andorra v. England game?

Highly paid overrated players against a team of part-timers, yet at times I could not pick the difference.

Same old lackluster England performance devoid of ideas and motivation.

Seems it doesn't matter who the manager is - same old, same old.
I pity the loyal fans who paid all that money to travel to Barcelona and then had to endure that rubbish.

Dave.

Mr Brent, It wont matter who the manager is if they keep picking the same team. Sven, Maclaren, Cappello - is there really much difference between the players they have selected ?

Call me mad but I've got this feeling that England might just nick the points in Croatia tonight.

I'm not so sure Dave, the world cup is less than two years away and the strides they have to make to be in with a chance of winning are giant ones.

The great shame is that none of it seems to be on terrestrial, the old men in suits who make these type of deals are pathetic.

New England manager but the same old faces and tactics. For my pennyworth, Jamo is a liability when the pressure is on, Wes Brown isn't an international full back, Beckham is past it, Gerrard and Lampard can't play together, Ashley Young should be on the left, and Wayne Rooney is a second-striker not a CF.
