In a radio interview yesterday Rooney suggested that Heskey was his favoured front man to play behind (if you get what I mean). I have never been Heskey's biggest fan but if he can revitalise Rooney's England performances, he will do for me.

I did see the game, England were very good (Croatia very poor even before the sending off), but lets wait until England put 2 or 3 consecutive performances together before going overboard. Remember the false dawn of Munich.

Agreed Bernie.
We can all remember that famous victory for England in Munich seven years ago when they thrashed the Germans 5-1. (Heskey was in that side too). A certain player named Owen scored a hat-trick that day. The fans all believed it was going to be the turning point for England and that they would go on to win the World Cup.
The game turned out to be an isolated blip and that England side did not go onto any great things.

England's win away from home in Croatia is very similar to what happened in Munich back then.
I just hope England can now go onto bigger and better performances.

We long suffering England fans deserve nothing less.

Dave.

There is speculation that Kevin Keegan might be going back to Newcastle Utd.

A lot of new mothers on Tyneside have named their new sons Kevin, after Kevin Keegan, with the hope they will be walking within eight months.

In the so-called 'Clash of the Cash' the 'old' money easily beat the 'new' money. Chelsea could have won by five or six, they outclassed CIty for most of the game. Robinho looked tired but apart from him they had nothing else to offer, SWP flattered to deceive yet again. Top five? Not unless they can bring in another four or five players in Juanuary, but by then I reckon they'll be in mid-table and too far enhind to do any damage. Chelsea looked as good as they did against Portsmouth and should be in with a real shout at the end of the season. Terry was sent off, going by the letter of the law he shouldn't have been but the intention was so obvious I don't think the ref had much choice. The Jolly Scousers did everyone a favour by beating ManUSA. PS - Droggy is back!

Wasn't expecting that, especially after Tevez scored, but once Utd get their wingers back they'll be a different proposition. Arsenal seem to be flying but I expect them to slow down once we get to the winter months.

Chelsea are still looking very good. They must be the team to beat this season.

Having seen the Chelsea , Man. City game ,I think Chelsea will win the premiership this seasonthey were far better than cityand as for the sending off of Terry ,it was a foul and yes it was cynical but a red card no the ref. got that wrong . I'm a neutral and I think the blue ribbons of Chelsea will be on the trophy at the end of the season.

I'd imagine Ashley would be on the receiving end of a verbal lashing but the family in danger bit is one of the many parts he goes all drama queen in his statement. If he wanted to develop a young squad hand-picked by Wise then he should have told both Keegan and the fans of the route he was taking from the outset - tho most managers would baulk at giving up that much control. He cites Arsenal as a business model but they are a young squad chosen by Wenger not the board.

Totally agree with you Bats. He does absolutely nothing for me or for my beloved Spurs.

I think if Ramos does not get a result tonight or Sunday against Wigan he could be another manager to lose his job. He's even quoted as saying "it could take up to ten games to get back on track". That's ten games too many mate! Or as Ramos probably sings in the bath, "Juande at a time sweet Tottenham.......".

The Spurs situation is incredible. The sack a good manager and replace him with another who appeared to be no better at the time of his appointment, and now appears worse. They sell their top three strikers, keep the crap one and, after spending a reasonable amount of money, are rooted to the bottom of the table. At least the swollen-headed David Bentley is getting what he deserved.

Again totally agree.

I would not be at all surprised if we are relegated. The media hype that was thrown around at the begining of the season was total bull, and when I heard that Robbie had decamped to Liverpool, don't blame him at all, I feared the worst for us then. All the pundits on Star Sports and ESPN here all predicted great things without looking at the picture of who was left at Spurs to play up front. Sorry Dazza but you should back to South East London where you're better suited. This is gonna be a tough season.

Thank you batman and lordtednfs, your discussion of the "state of play" at White Hart Lane has made me feel that things are almost sensible at Upton Park (although we just lost Ashton, again !).
