Blood and Sand, is it as simple as that? I wanted something with Latin or ancient Greek overtones. The word ambidextrous reflects the skill required in being able to use two hands, surely there has to be a similar word to reflect the skill in using two feet. Two footed sounds boring, perhaps we can invent a word to reflect the creativity footballers need to use both feet.

Excellent Bats, many thanks indeed, I enjoyed bipedept, but looks as if two footed it has to be, a bit like playing 10 at the back but never mind.

Ambifootrous?

Actually, it's still Ambidextrous. The word "ambidextrous" is derived from the Latin roots ambi, meaning "both," and dexter, meaning "right" (as opposed to left) or favorable. Thus, "ambidextrous" is literally "right on both sides". Nothing specifically to do with hands (or feet)

Thought England played better in the last two games than they have in years. I thought a certain mr Ferdinand was a bit weak as well as Cole mind you.

It was nice to see a player on the right taking players on and putting in decent crosses and balls into dangerous areas. Wright Philips and Richards should be first choice on the right from now on. Wright Philips has done more in two games than Beckham has in two years (more actually but it scanned better that way LOL).The corners from Barry were more dangerous than the ones we've become accustomed to seeing England give us too.

I laughed when I saw Heskey had been brought back but now admit I was wrong to have done so. An excellent choice, Yes he was forced to bring someone else in but he brought the right someone else in and should stick with him. Yes Rooney is a proven goalscorer but he is a liability at times, he, like Lampard, Neville and Hargreaves should be made to wait on the bench for their chance again and then prove themselves worthy of first choice again. As for Beckham, please stay posing in America.

As Bats said. Mclaren should leave this team alone.

As for the Sweaties beating Les Bleus. I normally want the Sweaties to do well but last night BAH HUMBUG! Allez Les Bleus he says as a part French soon to move there type person LOL. I hope the Tartan Army keep Italy out and not France.

Blood and sand was a term used by Professor Geoffrey Loftus, played by Ernest Clark in the tv series Doctor in the House which until today I didn't know one of the writers was John Cleese.

It is also a novel by Vicente Blasco Ibáñez. Filmed in 1922 and 1941

It's wonderful to watch Fleet Street eat humble pie this week, and a few, not enough, even had the honesty to own up that they were wrong about Heskey.

Just proves what I have thought for years, it's not necessarily the best eleven players that make the best Team. Think 1966, think Brian Clough Teams. It's more about blend and balance.

For once well done Mc Laren, even though he didn't have much choice. Mind you, he's not a Manager, more a number two.

Women's World Cup (or the 'girly world cup' as it was called by someone) Update

ENGLAND 0 GERMANY 0

A fantastic result for the girls against the holders and hot favourites. The last time they met the Germans won 5-0 and could have had ten. This time, and in terrible conditions, the England girls played really well (admittedly mostly in their own half) and fully deserved the draw.

With Japan beating Argentina 1-0 it could come down to goal difference, but if England beat Argentina next Monday they will definitely qualify, regardless of the result in the Germany v Japan game.

To put this result into perspective, it is the equivalent of Scotland beating France the other night.

Bats.
