I'll stick my neck out and go for Brazil ...... they can certainly mix it with the Germans if they cut up rough and the Germans are also a bit slow at the back.

Better than viewing the Rugby World Cup obviously I'm glad the girls enjoy playing football the greatest game, but to be honest I can't say it makes an especially thrilling spectacle.

I have to agree with you.Let us be quite honest about this the level of the football at times barely reaches the level of League 3.So i think that some of those watching may be doing so for reasons other than football. No names no packdrill but the posts speak for theselves.

I enjoy the women's game mainly because of the spirit in which it's usually played.

I am under no illusions that a lot of the teams in the World Cup would struggle to survive against any well organised men's team, but the better ones, especially Germany, would give some Conference sides a run for their money.

I have to disagree about it not being a thrilling spectacle. Some of the games I have watched over the past couple of years or so have been really exciting, but it's horses for course I suppose. I find rugby to be the most boring game imagineable, possibly only challenged by snooker or synchronised swimming.

IMHO we should give women's football as much support as we can. It is never going to be as 'powerful' as the men's game, either physically or politically, but IMHO it is very entertaining and deserves a higher profile.

I agree with you about the spirit of the game Bats , I think that will change as more money is invested and then unfortunately the cynicism creeps in .With regard to rugby being boring I couldn't disagree more, I would rather watch a good union game than some of the dross premier league soccer that is played.

I May be getting older ,but I refuse to grow up

It will change I am sure ... we saw a bit of it creeping in during the USA v Brazil semi-final, so let's enjoy the good natured games while we can. Agreed, some Premier League footy is dross, but rugby ..... .

Bats you've never lived unless you've felt the exhiliration of hurtling down the wing, ball clamped firmly to your chest , wind in your hair (yes still got a full head of it ) and then feeling the hot breath of the oppposition on your neck as one prop forward gives you the biggest wedgie you will ever have and another one teaches you how to graze like the prize bullock you suddenly feel Funny the things you did for enjoyment when you were younger

I had to play rugby at school .... hated it then, hate it now. I much preferred the exhilaration of leaping to head a perfect cross into the far corner of the net, or a highly contested last 100m of a cross country race .... marvellous.

I won't try to win you over anymore Bats but you must have enjoyed wilkinson kicking the winning drop goal at the last world cup ? , and just to let you know I'm not biased I played soccer until I was 36 just for enjoyment . I was offered proffessional forms by Stockport County in 1972 and was asked back for another trial at manchester City both of which I declined and I don't regret it for a minute

I did watch that match ... Mrs Bat likes rugby and so I watched it with her. It was good to see England win but I haven't watched a game since. I had a trial with Peterborough United when I was 17 but didn't get offered a contract. I was gutted!

Enjoy the England v Tonga game tonight.

I think not! Even a struggling side would beat any of the teams I've seen, did Stevenage not beat the England ladies 12-0 a few years back? Mind you Germans do have some big lads....erm I mean ladies

As you said that was a few years ago .... and I did say the better sides. The USA and the Germans have played against men and usually do OK, even winning a few times. The England side would probably struggle but then some of the Conference teams I have seen on TV have been pretty ropey.

That Birgit Prinz is a 'big ol' mawther' as they say in these parts ...
