It appears Roman went in the shed end today, in a none cynical attempt to win fans over. I presume the KGB henchmen in black are for fetching the hotdogs?

Sort of makes you wonder if Jose's popularity irked him.

Oh dear what a topsy turvy world we live in , Arsenal top playing the type of football that M U F C have always aspired to , United second , not playing well but grinding out 1-0s a la "one nil to the arsenal " and chelsea can't buy a goal at the moment Remember boys it's only a game

I May be getting older ,but I refuse to grow up

According to some Chelsea fansites several 'insiders' reckon that was the main problem between them .... Jose always looked a billion dollars while Roman had the billion dollars but still looked like an ex-dustman!

I just watched some 'highlights' on TV .... Drogba looked OK but his big gob and big feet have put him out of action, the defence looked all over the place (even with Terry on the field) especially Ben Haim, Kalou is back to last season's 'hasn't got a Kalou' form and Shevchenko should retire 'cos he is playing like I used to when I was 35 with dodgy knees.

We still have the players to salvage a Champions league spot but it will need a very strong coach to whip them back into shape and Avram ain't looking the part yet. We need a Ferguson or a Wenger (or even Harry Redknapp) but there's not too many of them about.

Arsenal do look good though .... ManUSA are grinding out results but Liverpool seem to have faded a bit. It's the most interesting season for ages!

No wonder!
I watched the game - he was rubbish!!!

Does anyone know what type of "style" Grant is trying to install into his players?
There was very little sign of any style within the Chelsea ranks.

I think they're going for the Graham Taylor England style ..... ''no one has a 'kalou' what they're doing, never mind, it'll be raining soon so we can all hide under an umbrella.''

I think your being unkind to Avram over this style thing ... he looked quite dapper in his new suit, although he'd better be careful, the dustman might get the hump.

To Fareham Bees why did they get rid of Allen.Maybe now he is a free agent they could get him back.
Martin Allen had taken us as far as he could. He was a great motivator, got us into two play offs but lacked the knowledge to get us through them, I think the same happened at Franchise last season. That and a lot of behind the scenes shennanigans. He was at Griffin Park yesterday but I hope we're not going to go backwards and get him back.

''But the sinister element of the near racist backlash following Grant's arrival is something Chelsea Chairman Bruce Buck is determined to end.
Buck declared: "We welcome all constructive points of view. But there have been a few which could be viewed as racist and anti-Semitic and that must stop immediately.
"This is one thing we will not tolerate, whether in written correspondence, on the chat pages, on posters or banners, or through singing and chanting.
"It unfairly smears the reputation of the vast majority of the Chelsea fans who rightly do not want to be associated with such activity."
The anti-Semitic comments were aimed at upsetting Grant whose Polish father Meir, 80, is a holocaust survivor.''

I just read this on an online sports site ..... I am somewhat ashamed that this should happen. A bit of banter etc is one thing, but this is something else. As Smiffy said ... 'It's only a game, boys'.

I watched some of it the Brazilians played some nice stuff but never really looked like scoring, even managing to fire a penalty tamely at the keeper. You just knew Germany would win it, but the first goal was just a fairly routine shot at goal that the Brazil keeper somehow managed to avoid (in keeping with the standard of the tournament).

Thanks for that Harbottle. The goalkeeping has been pretty poor throughout the competition. Some of the girls are simply not physically big enough (or have strong enough arms) to keep out accurate and/or well hit shots. Some of the goalkeeping judgement has been a bit 'David James' as well. I shall have a look at the highlights when I get home later. Overall it's been an entertaining tournament but the Germans were the best team by far and their victory was rather inevitable. I was pleased that the only team they failed to score against was England!

Well said bats it doesn't matter which team we support ,if we lose our humanity everybody loses .It's interesting that we were talking about women playing football without a negative word about women because we were talking about football ( And the women were fantastic)
Spot on again Bats banter is one thing , you should be able to rib somebody and be ribbed in return , just leave the aggression and hate out of it .
I was 10 yrs old before my dad took me to my first game at old trafford and until then I wasn't sure which team he supported because on a saturday he always went to watch football ,I begged him to take me but he said I was too young and I could go when the time was right.I didn't realise that when he wasn't watching united he was watching city ,and that's how it was in years gone by you went to watch a game of football, wouldn't that be nice now if winning didn't matter as much as taking part

I May be getting older ,but I refuse to grow up

WEST BROMWICH ALBION 5 QPR 1

Watched the game live over here and must say what a great match it was.
Although QPR were greatly outplayed, the sight of the Albion's free flowing attacking football was a joy to behold. Some great goals and lots of great action.

What can you say about the amazing Kevin Phillips? He scored a couple of goals, the last one was an absolutely brilliant strike. He is now aged 34 but he is still playing like a youngster.
If Albion can keep producing displays like this one they must be hot favourites to return to the Premier League next season.
Fingers crossed.

Dave.

Bats,
Thanks to your regular bulletins on the Women's World Cup tournament I took an extra interest here and saw the first hour or so of the Final. What an absolute pleasure it was to see a flowing, skilful and pacey game where the players don't fall over like skittles as a tackle approaches and the referee is left to ... well just referee the game! None of the histrionics, cheating (apart from the odd dive!)..and rampant egotism that has poisoned the professional men's game
The teams of this tournament should be proud of their achievements.
Let's be honest, the likes of our favourite premiership and even national teams should hang their heads in shame. In future any of our mens teams that are accused of "playing like a bunch of women" should be aware that they don't deserve the accolade...
