I think teh Reds make £1m per game, if Chelsea are paying these sort of salaries I fail to see how they can ever balance the books. Of the other big 4 I'd guess maybe 3 or 4 big names are on whopping salaries but the kids and hod carriers are on 20-40k (Riise certainly is!).

the ironic thing is that when Bates sold Chelski to roman they were only 98million in debt and about to go into administration.Compare this to a club such as Coventry who are"only"38million in debt but likely to go into administration.

Chelski's hod carriers (Makele, Mikel et al) are on £30-50k. The likes of Kalou are on £20-30k with the 2nd tier (inc Lampard at the moment) on £60-80k.

Kenyon and Abramovich are adamant, however, that this 10 yr. plan is gonna work.

But then they've got more money than me so what do I know!

Problem is, if you don't give Lampard parity with the big earners there's a danger he could buy out his contract or do a Bosman. It's a vicious circle in that Mikel will probably look to double his salary when his contract comes round. The only way to bring it under control is to introduce a ceiling and not be blackmailed into breaking it.

I tell you what if Chelski want to save some money i will volunteer to play for say 10k per week so i will save them 500k per annum.Mind you just one point they will have to agree to sub me in the 1st minute. However i would be the first and maybe last 60 year old to play in the premiereship.

Being a neutral and not having my team in the prem. I hope Arsenal win the league, they have by far the best young set of players in the league and i hope they win the EUFA cup.
( now let battle commence).

I couldn't agree more. The trouble is that the PFA are dead-bang against any kind of salary cap and would encourage their members to fight it. Again, the short-term view would prevail.

Can I join you? I'm not 60 but I have got dodgy knees! Even if we only managed the one game I'd be happy with £10k.

I think The Arse have a great team at the moment and they are playing really well. If they can maintain it through the winter then I think they'll be in with a shout. The weekend game versus ManUSA will be a big test though. Those two I think will be battling it out for top spot with m'boys snapping at their heels.

Oh dear ... as I predicted the moaning has started at The Bridge. Several ''senior'' players are said to be upset by the ''methods and manner'' of Henk Ten Cate. Apparently he's been a bit to keen to ''assert his influence'' and is perceived by the prima donnas as ''brash and arrogant''. He is alleged to have been a bit too ''frank and honest'' in his appraisal of certain individual's performances. The word ''mutiny'' is being used. I bet Jose must be having a right old laugh at all these shenanigans.

If JT gets £150,000 per week I don't see a problem with that. The amount film stars get per film is quite considerably a few squillion more but these days they're not expected to entertain the public!

What gets me is the recent uproar in the press about doctors getting a paltry £115,000 a YEAR.

No fuss is made about blokes kicking a ball around a field for 90 mins for £130,000

Should be a really good game tonight (our time) between Arsenal and United.
Of course it's being shown live in Oz.

Let's hope it's a game of free flowing, end to end action - with plenty of goals!!!
I know it is still early in the season but 3 points for either team now could be very vital in deciding the shape of things next May.

Just to follow up on the point of Live English football around the world.

The Premiership may be very popular around the world but so is the FA Cup and England's international matches. (Must be all those ex-pats around the globe).
A new deal was struck this week by the FA with overseas networks to cover FA Cup and England games for the next four years.
The cost? A whopping 145 million quid.
Four years ago, the same contract went for 40 million.

Whatever may be said about the football game in England, it seems the rest of the world cannot get enough of the action.
