A new deal was struck this week by the FA with overseas networks to cover FA Cup and England games for the next four years.
The cost? A whopping 145 million quid.
Four years ago, the same contract went for 40 million.
Whatever may be said about the football game in England, it seems the rest of the world cannot get enough of the action.

The Premiership is very popular here in Asia and we are lucky enough to get 3 or 4 live games shown on the box over the weekend. But it's strange that here in the Phils we only get to watch the England matches shown on a Saturday, the midweek qualifiers are not shown at all, yet we get to watch the Champions League matches. There are also a few unscrupulous companies who link up to channels off air and show matches from the UK on Saturday nights, no complaints there.
When I was last home I semm to remember that the average cost for a decent Sky package was about 45 a month. Well here it's not as dynamic as blighty and footy is probably the last thing on most Filipinos minds, but here we pay around 55 quid for the year and if we pay in advance for the year, we get an extra 2 months free, so after 6 years of payment, the 7th year is free, not bad eh? Beat that Sky!
The two big sports channels are ESPN and Star Sports and despite advertising the matches to be shown at 0400 (8pm UK) Hong Kong time on Thursday morning, we end up with girlie rounders and even more riveting stuff, I don't think, National Spelling Championships from the USA.

How can that be a sport? Can't see red cards being waved around here. No fan adoration here, only from mummy and daddy, throw up.
Every Sunday morning we get Football Extra, a kind of MOTD format with the highlights of Saturdays games and presented by the beautiful Jamie Yeo, and this girl knows tons of stuff about the great game. For some strange reason I cannot seem to add pictures to this thread but I will send you the link to see a picture of the delectable Jamie.
Thank you FA for allowing us ex pats to be able to keep up with our football lives back home, but do something about showing the midweek games here.
Welcome to Jamie Yeo's official site
