Redknapp stays and receives a massive pay rise (allegedly ) which confirms my opinion of his astuteness .Newcastle appoint keegan I mentioned a personality "like Keegan " , I didn't think for a second they would actually appoint him.I totally agree with DB7 ,If Keegans heart hadn't ruled his head Newcastle would have won the championship ,but unfortunately I think his paranoia rubs off onto his players as much as his enthusiasm. The Geordies are lovely people ,but their unrealistic Expectations will be even greater this time .I feel it is only a matter of time before history repeats itself

Must say a big well done to Havant & Waterlooville thrashing Swansea last night in the Cup, and now facing a trip to Liverpool. I have watched many a game down there when the Shots are away, and what a marvellous experience it will be for the small but loyal bunch of hardy fans. Rarely more than 600 there when I visit I wonder how many will be travelling to Anfield?

Not all.
The unlikely departure of Liverpool from the Cup would devalue it severly. Liverpool's epic tussles in Cup competitions in recent years have restored much of the glamour and excitement that makes the Cup special. Especially, in the case of the FA Cup when, a few years back, Man Utd and Arsenal considered it to be a minor part of their programme! |

Hi Orph,
Your usual snappy reply! I agree that Havant's win was phenomenal and great to see any under-dog have their chance at glory. But something tells me that you wouldn't be so magnanimous if it was Arsenal's head on the block! With Benitez having to deliver something, the FA Cup looks by far like his best chance. I expect Liverpool to do well in the FA Cup and to play with more hunger from now on. Would love it, love it if they met Arsenal.... |

Strange thing was that those thumping wins for Arsenal against Liverpool seemed to mark the beginning of the end of Arsenal's season - as things started to tail off, form-wise, steadily from then on! Have to agree Arsenal look very strong and without flashing too much cash around. Anyway, good to see that the FA Cup once again generates as much excitement as it used to do a while back. Still fancy Liverpool to flatter.

Arsenal fell away last season because of injuries to both Henry and van persie which only left Adebayor to carry the burden up front.Mind you Liverpool never fell away last season since both then and now they were never in the hunt.Better make the most of being able to buy players now, since if you get your new stadium you will be cash strapped for years to come

Thanks for the explanation, Orph. I never knew that Arsenal had only 2 decent players last season - no wonder they couldn't handle injuries!
I am not overly concerned about Liverpool buying new players. The over-dependence on the transfer market has destabilised them (along with a number of clubs). The problem is they have not bought wisely in many cases. The prevailing philosophy among fans seems to be that any dip in form, or poor run can only be solved by buying yet another new player - usually an overblown man of the moment trumpeted by the tabloids. One of the few things I like about Arsenal is their investment in their youth academy in grooming tomorrow's talent. An avenue many clubs do not believe in, as they very think short-term , thanks to the huge pressure to succeed. I hope Liverpool go full steam ahead with the new stadium. The lack of cash that you look forward to might focus the club more on keeping (and getting the best out of ) the right players .... |

I suggest that if Liverpool were to loose Torres and Crouch for the rest of the season they would score even fewer goals , other than of course against lame ducks such as Luton.
