I absolutely agree, Orph. Your mastery of the obvious is unrivalled. Of course, Gerrard has popped in 15 goals just to annoy you....Must get some work done. Good luck.

Gerrard scoring doesnt concern me since we have a far superior midfield player.Shame he didnt go to Chelski he might have won some medals.

He seems to have done allright staying where he is. If this is failure I can't wait to taste success!

"The Liverpool captain Steven Gerrard has won nearly every honour available to an English club footballer, the only exception to this being the premier league title.

So far Gerrard has won the FA Cup on 2 occasions, once in 2001 when Liverpool defeated Arsenal 2-1 and again in 2006 when Liverpool defeated West Ham United on penalties to lift the trophy.

Gerrard has also won the UEFA cup, which formed the second part of the historic cup treble season in 2001, when Liverpool also won the league cup.

Gerrard has also won the league cup on a second occasion in 2003.

He has also won the European super cup which Liverpool captured after beating Bayern Munich of Germany in 2001.

Completing Gerrard's medal haul is the Champions league victory when Liverpool defeated AC Milan on penalties to capture the trophy for a fifth time in 2005".

Look if you want to go back into the dim and distant past i would remind you of:-
1950FA Cup Final Arsenal win 2-0
1971Cup Final Arsenal win 2-1
1980FA Cup semi final Arsenal win 1-0
2002 FA Cup 4th round Arsenal win 1-0
2006FACup 3rd Round Arsenal win 3-1
Game set and match i think.

Orph,
It was your statement saying "shame he didnt go to Chelski he might have won some medals", hence my list of his medals. The head to head results v. Arsenal aren't as important as winning things. Also, I hardly think going back as far as 2001 constitutes the "dim and distant past".
You stay dim and I'll keep my distance!
Touche...
PS - Only joking on the "dim" part.
Will withdraw now - I fear we are going to bore the rest of the forum!

If you look at my list you will see that there were 2 final wins against Liverpool. In respect of your dubious 2001 "win" i would point out that if it werenot for the ref tripping over his guide dog and the lino adjusting his glasses they would have spotted the handball on the line by a Liverpool defender preventing the2nd goaland what would have been a winner as your teams efforts in the last 5 mins would have come to nothing.
As for Gerrard he is destined never to win a Premiereship winners medal.
Liverpool had better hope they have enough firepower to vercome mighty Havant.

FA Cup Finals 1997 - 2007 - appearances by the "Big 4" ...

Arsenal 5 (4 wins)
Chelsea 4 (3 wins)
Man Utd 4 (2 wins)
Liverpool 2 (2 wins)

Winners from outside the "Big 4" - zero!

At least if any of this lot were knocked out it would give someone else a fair crack.

I don't agree that a knock out competition could be 'devalued' if one of the competitors is knocked out, no matter who they are. That's point of the FA Cup, to beat the opposition.

To say the competition would be 'devalued' would be to dismiss the achievement of any club who happens to win the competition apart from Liverpool.

Bats.

I wish I had claws.

I've been round Liverpool's trophy room. Next time I'm in London I'll make a point of having a walk round Arsenal's trophy cabinet.

regards

The real damage to the FA Cup when the FA sent the then holders (MU) off to some World Club competition rather than demand/ensure they defended the trophy.

Havent is a lovely story (and the money will be a real boost for them) but if I'm honest the idea of a 'romantic' FA Cup tie doesn't ring true as the competition progresses. Millwall vs Utd should have been such a tie but instead it was a one-sided turkey shoot. Wimbledon maybe, but few get dewy eyed about Fash, Vinnie et al.

I thought our final with the Hammers was marvellous, end to end attacking, goals, extra-time, and some players unable to run by the end having given their all. Before that the likes of Liverpool and Arsenal had cynically won the cup by sitting deep and picking off the opposition on the break.

The ManU thing really hacked me off .... it was after that incident other clubs began to put the Premiership first, when it used to be the other way round.

The Liverpool v West Ham final was the best of the 'noughties' finals .... the only good thing about last year's snooze fest was that we beat ManU.

To be fair Bats United were put in an impossible position by the FA ,and you can't have been any more hacked off than every United fan and the players, remember this is a special competition to us as much as everybody else.
Last years final was a travesty ( not as bad as when Arsenal stole it from us ) United should have won ,Drogba was the difference ,you'll really miss him if he decides to leave .

I May be getting older ,but I refuse to grow up

When Droggy goes (and he will I reckon) he will be missed more than any other player in the team.

As for our other strikers ...

Anelka: if he can score loads for Bolton he can surely do it for us
Shevchenko: working hard and showing what he can do, at last
Pizarro: a class striker but needs more games
Kalou: improving all the time
Wright-Phillips: still not convinced but he does get some vital goals

Bats.

I wish I had claws.

My fear is that if Platini abolishes 4th place CL qualification in favour of the FA Cup winner or runner-up, such will be the stakes on offer that the majority of teams will not play open football. Rather than a boost I think the later stages will become tedious cagey affairs.
