One of my pet hates are cheaply made music docos that do not include origional music by the artists featured.
I recently saw yet another Beatles documentary - that did not include one origional tune from the Fab Four.
Sacriledge!!!!

I remember a tv series hosted by Dave Lee Travis, where they dug out old songs of the sixties and seventies from the charts, and film makers made a video to compliment them. It was a good programme - worth repeating.

It's getting heavy rotation on MTV2 but OK GO had already done the choreographed one-take video last year for YouTube - A Million Ways

Default Getting Any?

A recent study of 2500 Brits and their musical tastes by the University of Leicester shows that hip-hop aficionados have had more bedroom action in the last five years than fans of classical or country.
Almost 38% of hip-hop lovers and 29% of dance-music fans had more than one sexual partner in the last five years compared to just 1.5% of country-music fans.
Hip-hop fans were also more likely to have broken the law with more than 50% confessing to criminal offences.
One-in-five classical music fans surveyed had tried cannabis and 12% of opera devotees had experimented with magic mushrooms.

Can anyone relate to these findings?
I know the members on this forum are a rough-lot so please put down your spray cans and reply.
Now...where are my hip-hop records?

Dave.

Even the option of more bedroom action wouldn't make me listen to most hip-hop

Of course the findings of the survey could also be explained by the probable age of the respondents and be nothing to do with their musical tastes.

Default Black Sabbath To Reform.

The news is out that Ozzy Osbourne will be teaming up with his old Brummie mates from Black Sabbath in the second half of next year.
The reformed Black Sabbath plan to make a new album and perform some tour dates.

Brummies rock.

Not to keen on much modern stuff, the most recent CD's I have of current performers is Michael Buble and Katherine Jenkins

I prefer older popular music (and with the CD explosion of recent years love it even more) Dusty Springfield is at the top of the tree, closely followed by Diana Ross, Petula Clark, Maria Callas, Kathleen Ferrier, plus I like 60's compilation CD's with the likes of Love Affair, Marmalade, etc; and most 60's/70's Motown.

I love much Classical too, Vaughan Williams, Beethoven, Bach, Handel, Katchurian, Widor......never seem to have time to listen very often though!

This is me with the singer/Actress Clodagh Rogers at a Dusty Springfield tribute day earlier this year.......I know, 'what a big lad you are'!!

I couldn't possibly give a list of music I like. I would have no idea where to start or finish.
I can however give a comprehensive list of music I hate:-

Country & Western.

From The Blues Brothers:
Elwood: What kind of music do you usually have here?
Claire: Oh, we got both kinds. We got country and western.

Blimey, Mark, you are a biggun.
Is it that Canvey air laced with healthy petrochemicals?
Bit of a shock to see that Clodagh has aged - I remember seeing her when she was just 14!
She used to do a very good uncomplimentary Cilla Black impression in the old days.

My favourite sort of music is Film Scores followed by Classical Program Music.

Bernard Herrmann, Jerry Goldsmith and Dmitry Shostakovich are at the top of my favourite composers... and I'm hopeful that Joel McNeely may one day join them.

I'm also rather fond of my own music... but by that, I am not meaning to suggest my stuff is much good.

Depends what mood I'm in really but always got time for the best of the lot, Northern Soul. Yep am proud to say I used to visit Wigan Casino although that now makes me officially old!

Got around 20,000 records (vinyl not cd or mpegs LOL) so plenty to chose from. Never been a fan of hearing same old stuff and looked for something a bit different. Therefore, I love a bit of decent reggae, eg Peter Hunnigale, Clint Eastwood and General Saint etc.
Frankie Beverly and Maze, best live group ever and any soulful stuff like that but mainly individual tracks rather than one group in particular.

Was brought up hearing modern jazz, Art Blakey and the like and so also have an ear for that, including Sinatra and of course, Sammy Davis Jr.

Someone mentioned Diana Ross. I really hated her and thought she sounded like a mouse caught on a trap. Only really liked the Supremes singing Stormy, a lovely mid tempo "floater". Best Motwon track and production HAS to be Frank Wilson "Do I Love You (Indeed I Do). Pure class.

There again, got a load of old punk stuff, TRB, and love The Leyton Buzzards, Saturday Night Beneath the Plastic Palm Trees!
