I prefer older popular music (and with the CD explosion of recent years love it even more) Dusty Springfield is at the top of the tree, closely followed by Diana Ross, Petula Clark, Maria Callas, Kathleen Ferrier, plus I like 60's compilation CD's with the likes of Love Affair, Marmalade, etc; and most 60's/70's Motown.

I love much Classical too, Vaughan Williams, Beethoven, Bach, Handel, Katchurian, Widor......never seem to have time to listen very often though!

This is me with the singer/Actress Clodagh Rogers at a Dusty Springfield tribute day earlier this year.......I know, 'what a big lad you are'!!

Excellent photo Mark .... I missed that first time around. I'm a big lad too so it's good job both of us are in it .... you'd never see poor Clodagh!

My father was a fan of Johnny Cash but in the 60's fan based music was basically around the Mersey sound. And as a lad of 6 or 7 did not like the Cash sound at all. But now, well Dad you were right. Love listening to it and have a greater appreciation of the time that was yours. Hopefully I can pass it on to my boys as well as my music.

I love to hear Nat King Cole sing and my fave from him is "A Nightingale Sang In Berkley Square". When I worked in London I would walk from Bond Street tube to go to Green Park and would pass thru Berkley Square and as I would enter the square, the words would fill my head and I would sing them to myself, very special times for me.

How I would love to have a quiet lunch on my own again in the Square and gaze upon the majestic buildings that surrounded it. What it must have been like many many decades ago to enjoy the one of London's quintessential areas can only ever be a dream.

For those of you in the London area, go and enjoy a really beautiful part of London Town, you will enjoy it.

One of many such havens of tranquility that are still to be found throughout our great city. For it's size it does have a lot of trees and open areas. All those little squares (many open to the public) and many riverside and canal-side walkways and gardens. And then there are the big parks of course like Hyde Park, Regent's Park, Green Park etc where you can be far from the madding crowd in the heart of the city

A singer to watch out for is Duffy,a young girl from Wales. She has been played a few times on Radio 2 - she's a bit bluesy like Amy Winehouse, but without the troubles. I like Amy - I just wish she'd sort herself out.

I remember many moons ago seeing a colour centrefold of Clodagh showing those lovely long legs in a copy of music paper Disc.
She was lying down in the picture and wearing a very short skirt. You could see all the way up to her vest.

Default Remastered Rip-Offs

Have you noticed a few remastered albums being advertised for Christmas sales fever, U2 and Led Zep? I seem to remember receiving a digitally remastered Led Zop triple album remastered by Jimmy Page himself about 20 years ago! Is it some sort of new remastering with some special 2007 digital remastering technology redoing the digital remastering of 20 years ago? The U2 rip-off, sorry, CD, is being remastered from its original analogue tapes, wow, can't wait!

How I remember those exciting days many years ago when bands would release brand new albums containing brand new songs!

"...the chairman of Littlewoods stores made a Keynote speech!"
