Hi Marky,

I believe it should have been released in the UK on December 3rd. So it should be in the shops now.
The album is due for release in March.

I remember another English recording artist with the name Duffy (Stephen Duffy). He released a good album "I Love My Friends" under the name Duffy in the nineties.

Dave.

Any other Oscar Peterson fans around? What a player! So incredibly smooth, not a note out of place.

I'd love to learn to play the piano, but I'm not sure I could manage a millioneth of what he can do!

I once saw him record his UK TV series - I think this must have been back in the 1970's and he didn't need much rehearsal - just came on to the stage, sat down at the piano and ...... magical!

I understand he isn't too well these days, so very best wishes to him.

I like Oscar, a great pianist, smooth and exciting. Nat 'King' Cole was another great pianist, different from Oscar as he was more 'warm and cuddly' with his playing, which seemed to mirror his singing. Giants of jazz the pair of them.

While on the subject of jazz I have just re-read the biography of Chet Baker called 'Deep In A Dream' .... a riveting read about a great trumpet player but a rotten person. The accompanying CD compilation is worth a listen too, it features all his classic tracks.

I believe Oscar had a stroke a while back, thus limiting his left hand ability, it has improved but will never be the same, mind you his right hand is incredible! i remember the bbc2 70's shows,i think that is the first time i saw joe pass (guitarist) oscar's current guitarist ulf wakenius taught a master class i attended a couple of years ago, great player ! there is a relativly recent concert being shown on the artsworld channel at the mo'

cheers Ollie.

Mostly a fan of 50s, 60s, and 70s pop. Of the current crop of contempary singers, I like James Morrison, Micheal Buble, Amy Winehouse, and Katie Melua.

What are your favourite albums and songs for 2007?

I do not normally go for whole albums now and prefer individual tracks but one of the best albums I heard all year was "Sound Of Silver" by LCD Soundsystem.

My favourite tracks this year -

Someone Great (Full Version) - LCD Soundsystem
Keep The Car Running - The Arcade Fire
Fluorescent Adolescent - Arctic Monkeys
Valerie - Mark Ronson
I'm Not Sorry - Pigeon Detectives
Read My Mind - The Killers
Addicted - Amy Winehouse
I Cut Your Hair - Jacknife Lee
Pay To Join - Little Barrie
Smokers Outside The Hospital Doors - The Editors
That's Not My Name - The Ting Tings
Phantom Limb - The Shins
Colours - Hot Chip
One For Me - Macy Gray
Foundations - Kate Nash

Definately Ruby by the Kaiser Chiefs
Love Is A Losing Game Amy Winehouse
Rock Ferry Duffy
Katie Melua and the late Eva Cassidy have topped the UK singles charts with What A Wonderful World. They are two great singers and I am pleased for them as they also took over the slot from another great singer Leona Lewis. However,as much as I prefer their singing (and Alison Moyet, one of the greatest singers we've ever produced) to Louis Armstrong,I still prefer his version to theirs and Moyet's.

My favourite music?

My favourite above all is Alice Cooper, one of the most underrated musicians ever.

Apart from uncle Alice:
Lots. I like Therapy?, Robbie Williams, Deadline, Die Aerzte, Blur, Children of Bodom, Eurythmics, Faith No More, Queen, Strange Fruit, Millencolin, Satanic Surfers, Red Hot Chili Peppers, very old Bon Jovi, Skyclad, Skunk Anansie, Wir Sind Helden, Billy Mack, Rolling Stones, Ratt and I confess to have a thing for Mika's songs.

Hello Belgium!

Album of the year for me is Richard Thompson's Sweet Warrior. It might even be the best album he's made, which given his career, is really saying a lot. A fond mention too for Go!Team's Proof of Youth (Look up the Wrath of Marcie vid on Youtube) and the 20's/30's compilation Songs The Bonzos taught Us....
I have eclectic tastes...

Bit of a Bay Window, what??
