As mentioned before, his music was used to great effect in Master And Commander,Far Side Of The World. However, listening to his Sinfonia Antarctica (adapted from his music for Scott of the Antarctic),I can appreciate that being used in a Hammer horror film.

I suppose this topic could come under 'music' - but am I the only one to feel that the volume in cinemas these days is too loud? I don't think that I have over sensitive earholes. Sometimes it sounds distorted (usually a sign that the sound is too high).

Now I know that there are some ex-projectionists out there, so any ideas/comments please?

On Radio 2 Saturdays Brian Mathews presents Sounds of the Sixties between 8 and 10 am. He features a three back to back set , often they are with a theme so with this in mind which three 60's pop sounds would you like to hear which have been played in films. My three would be;

Ferry 'cross the Mersey - Gerry and the Pacemakers.

On Days like These - Matt Monro

Les Bicyclettes de Belsize - Englebert Humperdink

Remember the song must be from the sixties hit parade, the film can be from any decade, British of course though.

LOL

Now, whenever I hear Ferry 'cross the Mersey, I think of 'The Scousers' on Harry Enfield doing it.....Eh Eh Eh Calm down calm down.......

But I love On Days like These, ofcourse we all know which film this is from....incidentally, I always wanted to see it on the big screen and did so in Panton Street about 6 years ago........

'This car belongs to the Pakistani Ambassador'

I don't know how to begin. Anyways I adore Skinhead Reggae what? skinheads and reggae? Well yes the original skins were not political and were huge reggae and soul fans, we followed in thier footsteps, buying old sta-pressed, Brutus shirts and tonic suits.

Since hanging up my boots I've listened to a lot of Punk, stuff like Black Flag, Ramones, Circle Jerks, D.O.A. etc. I've always prefered the American punk of the early 80's.

Here's a list of bands I really dig

The Smiths
The Wedding Present(all time fav's)
The Kinks(Something else & Village Green albums are sublime)
Gillian Welch
Pink Floyd
The Upsetters
Laurel Aitken
Prince Buster
Sam & Dave
The Who
Maytals
The Specials
Echo & The Bunnymen
The Artwoods
The Creation
Gladys Knight

+ many many more, vinyl not CD though.

Aye, Eddie Phillips of The Creation fame was sublime. Page half-inched his playing style(violin bow) I also remember reading that Eddie once played the guitar with a pork pie, Superb! Who could forget his perfect and very 60's description of the band 'our music is red with purple flashes'

'Happening right now, BIFF! BANG! POW!

I have a huge collection of 60s music. If anyone is interested I would trade for movies.
