Just to change things around, I've got some UK friends who have recently moved to Poland for good! A lovely farm for £55K, cheap cost of living, lakes, mountains and FELLS to WANDER, and the best thing about it is that there's no traffic, and it's like a pre war UK film location! I'm tempted myself!

The overcrowding in the UK is getting beyond a joke but It's not necessarily to do with people "invading", more like a large concentration of folk in certain areas where work and wages are better than in other parts. Also everyone and his dog drives a car which adds to the overall impression of overcrowding, but who can blame them when public transport is unreliable, insecure and very expensive! It's harder to find someone who doesn't drive nowadays, whereas 30 years ago it was probably the husband had one car which the wife sometimes used as well, but only if he'd allowed her to have lessons and pass her test!

Back in the 80s people were also being encouraged to leave urban areas and live in Barrett boxes in out of town rural developments, just a quick drive up the motorway from work! The backlash of this is that community living in some urban areas disappeared and all that was left was the dross, who in effect took over and ruled the streets. With more and more reliance on the motorway commute every day it basically turned a 30 minute drive into a 2 hour plus ordeal of rage and torment!

If people lived where they worked like in the old days there would be more community bonding, less crime, less traffic, and less soul less rural housing developments that have become so big that they're now almost urban themselves!

Having being brought up in the sticks I appreciate the joys of town living. Not having to drive to get to the shops, hop on a bus to go out for the evening, and no Bank Holidays driving to out of town retail parks! Sheer bliss!

the lifestyle given to them in this country for free, is more than they could ever dream of.
Yep, have to agree with you there.

Incidentally what is the film you've taken your avatar from?
Я не думаю мы может обобщить о таких вещах и сделать поэтому неправильны потому что люди должны быть приняты на от одно до одно основание

Воплощение приходит от рассказа The Karen Carpenter Story .

Note to the site maintenance men - can we please have a Smilie with a picture of a bemused face with a horizontal hand moving backwards a couple of inches above the top of his head please. Thanks.

My E-Bay fraud update.

The police are investigating my case and advised me that the fraudster's involved had opened numerous bank accounts under false names (male and female.) They had supplied the banks with false ID's and addresses.
The police have been in contact with the bank involved and they have put an instant freeze on all the fraudulent accounts. The account name that received my payment still has over $19,000 in it.Just shows how many customers they have ripped off on E-Bay. The people involved had been making maximum daily cash withdrawals from the accounts by ATM machines. They had not ventured back to the bank after opening the accounts.
The police admit that they do not expect to be able to prosecute those involved as they have no positive information as yet as to the culprits true identities.
The police admit it's a fraud, the bank with the dodgy accounts admit it's a fraud yet I still have an uphill battle getting my money back. I've filled out forms with my own bank and with the bank holding my e-bay money. It's a slow complicated process.Banks seem to have a knack of making the most simple customer requests into something near impossible.
While I've been battling through all this I have not heard a single word from E-bay.I reported the fraud to them 3 weeks ago and have kept them up to date on latest develpments. My origional impression that E-Bay did not want to get involved in buyer/seller problems has not changed. To date they have been absolutely no help to me.

I'm slowly going off E-Bay, it seems to have been infiltrated by the lazy, idle con artist brigade! In theory the system works quite well but as you say, because E-Bay doesn't really show its teeth (despite their size and turnover) there's little we can do as buyers apart from boycott the whole thing.

I find it more useful for selling because I prefer to buy new DVDs etc from recognised outlets, and so I have used the power of E-Bay to offload a lot of good items that I no longer wanted, and dealt with mostly decent folk. I will continue to sell stuff but as for buying, well, I work too long and hard for my money so I don't want to just give it away!

Has anyone not tried Amazon Marketplace for selling?Don't know the full ins and outs of being a seller, but Amazon collect the money for you upfront so you can't be ripped off.

Cheers

Probably because eBay don't charge the buyer anything, they only charge the seller.
So they listen to the sellers - but not the buyers.

It's literally a seller's market.

But as long as you follow the old caveat emptor it can be quite useful for buyers.

Not a con, but if you want to make money, buy old UK films from Nostalgia and MU and stick them on Ebay in the UK. 3 days to go on this copy (and they are mostly 2nd gen) of Castle in the Air and it's up to £20. $14.99 at Nostalgia.

Many thanks guys for your kind thoughts and wishes.
You're a great bunch.

I want to share as much of the details on this fraud as possible with you. Hopefully my experience may in some way prevent other's falling into a similar fradulent trap.

Cheers!

Dave.

Damn! I hoped you'd missed this thread.

It's a fair cop guv - but I've been up here well over half my life and the three most important people in the world to me were all born within 12 miles of here. Now that's a statement that will problably cause Sam to shake his head in disbelief

Nay Mr Wilks, people up t'North are a generally genuinely a lot more friendly than in other parts o' country, way aye bonnie lad! "Who will get a bloater shoved right down his throater when the boat comes in?" I've seen 'em all, from Cleckheaton to Cleveleys, from Saltburn to St Albans!

But in the words of that "classic" 1982 No1 Ebony & Ivory ".........there is good and bad in everyone."

On the whole society in this country respects material wealth, celebrity, logo fashions and whether you drive a German car or not! Personally I couldn't give a toss about people's financial status or the letter on their car registration, if they're interesting to have a drink with that's fine by me, and if they pay for a round now and again, even better.

Having said that our pub landlord is from Barnsley and a more miserable sod you've yet to meet. He had a fancy dress "do" a while back, a 1960s night witha disco. We all turned up in fancy dress and he was sat there in his normal clothes and his bar staff and missus also in normal gear. "You not getting into fancy dress?" said I "You gotta be jorkin' lad, I don't want to look a pratt!" Now to me that defeats the object of having a bloody fancy dress in the first place if the host won't join in!

Yorkshire man takes his cat to the vet.

Vet "What can I do for thee lad!"

Man "It's me cat vetinary, he keeps pissin' all over t'house"

Vet "Is it a tom?"

Man (lifting cat basket) "No I brought it wi' me!"
