IMHO the whole idea of honours should be junked.
Since Major opened the system up to the public,we now have fans and acolytes lobbying for honours for their favourites, not to mention people like Caine and Jagger demanding them. Then there's Connery, who accepts an honour from a monarch and nation that he campaigns against. Those who want honours shouldn't get them, and those who deserve them shouldn't accept them.Save them for acts of bravery and unstinting public service - thats if we must have them at all. What ever system is chosen, the self-serving will hijack it,you can be sure. Jacky PS. It would be nice if all recipients deigned to live in the country which honoured them. |

He's 71 now as well, so if a knighthood is suitable recognition for services to the theatre and televison then he thoroughly deserves it! |

Well,no Sir John Barry and I agree with most comments that Brucie deserved a knighthood, after all he is arguably the longest running entertainer on British television.
