Cool

It is academic now,but who would you like to see get honoured in the New Year honours?

My own suggestions;
John Barry (knighthood)
John Williams (the US composer,an honorary knighthood)
Eric Sykes (knighthood)
Ronnie Barker (a posthumous knighthood)
Jenny Agutter (a dame - just for you,Fell)
Jean Alexander (a dame)
Freddie Jones (a knighthood)
Gerry Anderson (a knighthood)
Sylvia Anderson (a dame)
Barbara Brocolli (an honoury dame)
Bernard Cribbins (one of the BE's,nah sod it - a knighthood)
Felicity Kendall (ditto)
Richard Briers (knighthood)
Patrick Macnee (one of the BE's)
Francis Rossi (ditto)
Robert Plant (knighthood - if Cliff,Mick,Elton and Paul get it,why not him?)
Ringo Starr (knighthood - argument - see above)
George Lucas (honorary knighthood)
Peter Jackson (Lord of MiddleEarth,Duke of Skull Island)
Katie Melua (anything - she's gorgeous)
Chris Rea (apply argument of Robert Plant)
Madonna (honorary Dame,Duchess or whatever)
Ricky Gervais (nowt)
The Stars of Little Britain (nowt)
Morecambe and Wise (posthumous knighthoods,lordhoods,dukedoms,earldoms,kingdoms)
Laurel and Hardy (ditto)
George Cole (knighthood)
Maureen Lipman (dame)
Judi Dench (Duchess)
Paul O Grady (Duchess)
Ta Ta

Well they never give posthumous honours except to miltary personnel so any thought of Sir Ronnie Barker is impossible unless they offered it to him and he accepted when he was still alive.

Sir John Barry though is a serious and real possibility. I'd like to see veteran Val Guest get a CBE after all these years.

I have a hunch they might have something for Kate Bush this time.

Good call, but his previous residences (I'm assuming to avoid crippling tax bills) in Switzerland and California may count against him. Those that make the decisions (civil servants) have long memories.

Perhaps, then, they might stretch their memories back a tad further to when Hammer was awarded the Queen's Award for Industry (Exports) and he kept the $$$$ rolling in at the box office ?

Some hope !

I'd agree with most, disagree strongly with some and as for Jenny - she has Goddess status here anyway!

I must admit I wouldn't mind it if Guy Richie named me as co-respondent in their divorce

That didn't stop him getting a CBE in 2001 so you never know ...

Yes, didn't Sir Roger Moore get his awards in that same order, CBE first ?

Yes ... Roger Moore CBE in 1999, Knighthood in 2003.

It often happens ...

Anthony Quayle CBE 1952, Knighthood 1985.
Alec Guinness CBE 1955, Knighthood 1959.
Ian McKellen CBE 1979, Knighthood 1991.
Michael Caine CBE 1993, Knighthood 2000.
Alan Bates CBE 1995, Knighthood 2003.

Some people like Sean Connery and Tom Courtenay went straight to the knighthood (probably because they'd had to wait a long time to get anything).

True, but Rog's K was purely for his charitable work and NOT his acting according to the citation!!! I'm sure he wasn't insulted!
