I think I can speak for all Football fans up here in Scotland when I say that we will all be glued to the television for Englands opening game, hoping and praying for the right result.

Paraguay.
And yes, it looks like Rooney could play for England in this World Cup IF they reach the semi finals.

By the way, what theme songs are the Beeb and ITV using to front their World Cup coverage?

Dave.

Have you noticed how none of the merchandise (at least none I have seen) has promoted the tournament in the traditional manner, as 'Germany '06'. Remember Italia '90 and Mexico '70.

I am dreading the world cup as I lve in Croydon. Some of you will recall the neanderthals taking to the streets during France 2004 Euro Championship.
Hmm , the innocent Days of World Cup Willy " we all love him toooo " or the 1970 Texaco Coins where you had about 12 Bobby Moores. I loved Mexico 70 and if anyone knows if there is a DVD of the England-Brazil match can you let me know?

Yes , a huge excuse for more anti-social Yobs to strut around like they own the street/pub/world. While it would do my heart proud to see England win ( yes , I can remember 1966) the inevitable yobbishness leaves a nasty taste.

England has a very unusual self image at the Best of times - Certainly when I was growing up we always regarded ourselves as British ( Union Flags at the 1966 Final for instance ). The St George Flag feels like something that something England is still getting used to , even if it centuries old.

Er . speaking of Football , England should progress beyond the Groups and then the fun starts! Its the strongest team we've had for ages even if Sven rarely gets them revved up beyond Second Gear .

The Keeper is OK - PLEASE avoid getting food poisoning.

The Terry/Ferdinand Combo is working well - its fantastic to see them come up for corners like a couple of pocket Battleships

Midfield is a problem if Lampard and Gerrard trip over each other. Gerrard must have the freedom to Attack. Not sure if Carragher is right for the "Makalele" Role

Attack - Maybe the Crouch/Owem combo will come together. If only to see that Robo thing again!

Well I hope to soon hear

Then I'll know that all the fuss is over for another 4 years .

Probably because the retailers (Or their accountants) have realised the problems of event-specific unsold stock...whereas the flags can (and will) be put into storage and wheeled out for The Ashes later this year, Euro 2008, the next Rugby World cup and so on...
Having said that, all the branding in our betting shop is event-specific...and the 'World Cup '06' is in what I think of as the parallel-lines script from Mexico '70...

Not often, but this is certainly one of those times. I really can't see what all the fuss is about

I know the feeling, I get it when watching latter day PnP films - I'm just not drunk enough!

Especially The Elusive Pimpernel. It's my least favourite of the films they made together. If anyone else had made it I'd probably say "Well done". But I expect so much more of P&P.

First blood to you. I watched the game on Saturday with a mate and nearly fell asleep in the second half. I should add it was hot and I'd consumed a few beers.

Could be a good omen, he left Liverpool and they won the European Cup, so having to leave the England squad...

(nah, can't see it happening)

Well England have progressed to the next round without anyone, including Owen, really playing well.
With Owen off so early in the match with Sweden and with England short on strikers you would have thought that Sven would have at least given Walcott a run. Otherwise, why the bloody hell did he take him in the first place.

Dave.
