Not long to go now!

I am wondering, how much does England rate its chance this year? Do you think you have genuine chance of winning it this time? I actually thought England would win it in 2002 and I thought you were dead cert for Euro 2004. I personally like to see England play well and if you do hopefully we can have another great match between our countries. It may surprise you given our countries histories that I support England after Germany. Many Germans feel natural affinity for this country - even during both world wars we wanted to 'unify' with you more than invade you. Many Germans still want to unify with you.

We resisted 'unification' then, and many people resist it now

As for the world cup, as a 1/2 Welsh, 1/4 Irish, Londoner, the sooner it's over the better.
It does absolutely nothing for me, win or lose.

Perhaps you should have watched the Cup Final yesterday....Two Hours of great football, 6 goals, and barely a foul...one of the best games (as a neutral) to watch for years....

Perhaps, but the magic of the beautiful game seems to have eluded me.
Probably my loss. Probably.

I'm like Steve,I am not interested in football, but I must admit, watching the Boro's two comeback games in the UEFA Cup,I was getting engrossed. However,I declined not to watch the game on Wednesday night (great atmosphere, here in Teesside) and judging by the reaction of some of the supporters, the team never turned up.
Of course,as an Englishman I wish our team all the best, but I am a bit concerned of the tragedy proportions which was brought in when it seemed we would lose Mickey Rooney's lad and all hopes of lifting the World Cup was shot out of the window. I thought we had eleven men on the pitch.

I am not an avid football supporter, but come on this is a global football extravaganza held every 4 years, it would be nice to see England do well. No doubt there will be the usual moans that accompany the tournament of it monopolising the screen. But I never hear moans when every year we get Wimbledon coverage on both BBC1 & BBC2 when foreign tennis stars fill up the screen for a full fortnight in June. So come on support england. It does not matter what DNA is in your makeup we are all mongrels.

I could be even more cynical and complain at the way that the newspapers overhype the team and everything to do with the competition - in the hope that it'll all go wrong so that they can then complain about it.

This does appear to be the benchmark of modern journalism; build 'em up and then knock 'em down.

Wouldn't it be terrible if journaists had to get a job where they just reported the news.
How many do you think could do it?

As a pessimist I had already decided that we did not have much chance in this World Cup especially as we have awful Mr Eriksson still at the helm (when the chips are down in the important games we can be sure that Sven will sit there with that fixed glazed expression on his face). The loss of Rooney and quite possibly a less than fit Michael Owen hardly helps matters. I’m still looking forward to watching the tournament though.

It has been very interesting reading this thread, individual views on our national team and the press reactions. As an all roung sports lover i am looking forward to the finals just as i am at the moment enjoying our national cricket team in action. Yes Rooney and Owen will be missed and i doubt we have a straight replacement but i am sure they will give their best. But i must say regarding the press you all seemed to have missed the point of their centre of attraction. It is without doubt that the whole competition according to all papers is that the finals are set in place to create yet another football moll, AKA Melanie Slade

Liverpool won the FA Cup so I'm sorted for the summer. I expect England to get to the last 8 or 4 then go out in heartbreaking fashion. Despite the stick he gets Sven has only lost about 2 competetive matches.

Can't say I'm looking forward to the McLaren era.

Good point,The Worm - already in the Sun,she has been photographed in a model type pose (not on page 3,I hasten to add) - she is a pretty girl, but I hate to see her used this way.
