Default Syd Barrett R.I.P

Sad news that legendary singer and co-founder of rock giants Pink Floyd,Syd Barrett has died at the age of 60.
After his renowned use of drugs over the years many would be amazed that he actually reached the age of 60.
Still a sad passing for a rock enigma. He delivered some great work but the promise of his early talent never quite came to fruition.
He will long have a place though amongst the scriptures written on the history of modern music.

Dave.

I don't think he took all that large an amount of drugs- some contemporaries state he only ever did acid four or five times, but it just did something to his brain. I'd wager he didn't do any illegal drugs in the last 30 years.

RIP to a true genius.

Most of Pink Floyd's stuff was written after he was replaced - certainly all of their work that appeals to me. From reading of his less-than-accomplished stage appearances it's hard not to conclude that he was probably somewhat overrated.

Early and later Floyd is (to quote a Barrett song title) apples and oranges.

I love both, but Barrett had a magic that couldn't be replaced.

It's funny that millions of people who have Dark Side of the Moon on the shelf have little or no idea who he was.

The first Floyd album blew me away when I first heard it and his solo albums are remarkable as well.

For those interested Syd's cannon is pretty small.

The first Floyd album and his two solo.

There's various other stuff, including Floyd singles not on the album and an odds & sodds solo release called Opel.

I always hoped he would one day join them onstage in later years (A long shot, I know). Very sad news indeed.....

that was sad news to hear that syd barrett had passed away!

my brother always said that the song called "Shine on you crazy diamond!" was written about him, was that right?

Most definitely, it's a tribute to him from the other band members

Syd Barrett was never overrated, he was a true genius, Floyd were never same without him.
