Default Killer UK Heat.

I have to smile at all the complaints coming from relatives and friends in the UK that its "Too damned hot!"
I know you do not get much of a summer out there and as such not many people are used to the heat but your "heatwave" falls a little flat when compared to other countries.
Here on the Sunshine Coast in Queensland it reached 40C on Christmas Day - now THAT'S heat.

Always remember one important Aussie bit of advice for times of drought.

Save Water - Drink Beer.

Dave.

I was doing my best last night, having a nice meal with my neighbours in their garden. Quite a few lightly chilled beers were consumed. And they were real beers of course, we never touch those lagers that have to be served so cold that they freeze your taste buds or you realise that they have no taste to them

But I'm a north European Celtic type. I'm not built for hot weather. Luckily I can do most of my work from home - sitting here in my shorts with the windows open & the fans blowing. The clients on the other end of the phone have no idea

Mad dogs and Englishmen....

I cranked the fan up and chilled with a few bottles of San Miguel. Must admit it doesn't agree with me and I love the rain!

Indeed Dave but we did not send folk out there to have a nice time Just had a welcome thunderstorm and heavy downpour here, I almost felt like doing an Andy Dufresne (no I don't mean shooting the wife!). Ghastly conditions though and no respite in sight, yet more horrid hot weather forecast for the foreseeable future down my way. Another rain worshipper here!

Two points.....
1. Only 3 degrees hotter than over here in London this week
2. The difference between the Gold Coast and the heat over here is that yours is dry...ours is humid. It is the humidity which is the unpleasant part

I agree Bartonbank, the humidity is the killer.
I firmly had my tongue in cheek when comparing the "heatwaves".
When it reached 40C here on Christmas Day the humidity was nearly 100%.
Usually though the temperature up here is tempered by sea breezes. Something you do not get in the heart of the UK.
I remember visiting England a few years ago when there was a short Indian summer happening. I visited a Birmingham working men's club with mates and it was like walking into a Turkish steambath. Not to mention the clouds of tobacco smoke that wafted around.
The guy serving behind the bar couldn't stop sweating - into the pints of best bitter. Didn't improve the taste though!

Back then most pubs, restaurants, cinemas, offices ect.. in the UK had never heard of air conditioning. It was also impossible to find a car that had air con.installed.
Now that the UK seems to be getting longer and hotter heatwaves has the attitude towards air conditioning changed over there?

Dave.

Roll on Autumn and Winter, when you can wrap up against the weather, or better still stay indoors with a good atmospheric film !

Iam thinking of suing my father as he obviously didn't pass on enough of his South Pacific-type genes ; I have a terribly low heat threshold - can't stand all this !

Typical bl***dy Aussies, even the humidity gives 100%.

90 minutes before the end of July - and it's started to rain for the first time this month.

They've just announced that this was the hottest July since records began. And in the UK the weather records go back a long way!

And Jeremy Clarkson will still insist that climate change is a myth created by vegetarian, homosexual tree-huggers!

The US is also experiencing heatwave and drought conditions and last summer here in Australia was a record one for temperatures and lack of rainfall.
It may be just part of a "normal" cycle that the world goes through every century or two.
Then again, it could mean "The End Of The World Is Nigh".

Was watching Tranmere at Stockport, apparently the covered stand had wet paint  so we had to sit in the open, although when it rained they gave out white plastic macs which made us look like the Ku Klux Klan.

Who's your lot? ;)
