name='samkydd']My favourite dish for relaxing and watching a good old black and white British film is fish finger sandwiches on crusty brown bread and a glass of ice cold Vimto (did you hear about the dyslexic rock star who choked on his own vimto?).

For a mass gathering at home to watch Spinal Tap or something you can't beat a mixed bag Indian takeway!

Thank You Sam, it`s good to know I`m not alone.... I thought it was just my guilty pleasure. Do you add anything..Brown sauce or Tomato Ketchup or maybe just a dash of Salt & Vinegar, mmmmmmmmmm

P.S. To the Fish Finger sandwiches of course, not the Vimto.

name='Steve Crook']That's the Glasgow diet, the sweetest and richest and fattiest known to man (or woman). It's not just the sugar, they like a lot of fat as well. It was in Glasgow that they invented the deep fried Mars bar - and that's why Glasgow is known as the heart attack capital of Scotland

    Steve
Smoking wouldn't help, either. I get the impression from Scottish TV shows that Scotland is chock-a-block full of nicotine addicts!

BUT... all that porridge must do them some good!

    name='Dame Starry']Potato Wedges

    Ingredients:

    Potatoes

    Vegetable Oil

Heat oven to 190°C with a dry roasting dish or baking tray in.

Use smallish potatoes; wash (don't peel) and cut each into 4 lengthways.

Bring to the boil in a pan of lightly-salted water and allow to boil for a few minutes. Remove from the heat and drain.

Shake about to ‘rough up’ the edges a little and then add enough vegetable oil to coat the potato wedges as you turn them over with a spoon.

When the oven reaches temperature put the potatoes, skin side down, onto the tray and then into the oven.

Cook for about 40-45 minutes, turning twice to make sure that they are browned on all three sides.

Sprinkle with coarse sea salt and coarsely-ground black pepper.

Serve with a creamy dip, favourite ketchup or curry sauce while you watch the footie.

(I haven't got a photo of these yet - but I'll post one later!)

    Picture - as promised:

Carmel - can I ask a question, please?

Do you put the salmon in the marinade while it's still hot, or do you let it cool down first?

That's all he wears in the kitchen, actually.

I tried to get him to wear an apron, but then he found that he couldn't find anything to hang his oven glove on.

One of my favourite quick and easy din-dins, from the River Cafe TV series on C4 some years ago. Enjoy!

Pasta Penne with Cherry Tomato sauce & Balsamic Vinegar

    Ingredients for Two People

400g Cherry tomatoes (Tinned or fresh - tinned are just fine unless you grow cherry tomatoes yourself)

    Olive Oil

    250g Penne Pasta

    60g fresh Parmesan, grated

    handful fresh Basil leaves

    75g Butter

    3 tbsp Balsamic Vinegar

    2 Cloves grated Garlic

    Method

Place a little oil in a saucepan and gently cook the garlic for a few minutes. Then add the Cherry tomatoes and basil (tear the leaves) cook, gently, for @25 minutes to a thick sauce.

Meanwhile, cook the Pasta according the the manufacturers instructions. Drain, and drop the butter into the hot pasta then add the Balsamic until it coats. Add some cheese, then pour the pasta into the sauce and stir coating the pasta in the yummy sauce. Serve with a little (no make that a lot) more Parmesan cheese.

I've this genius idea for a Crimbo bash, we all sit at the bar getting drunk (slagging off Ricky Gervais, the naffness of Battle of the River Plate, is Night of the Demon an occult film....) whilst you and Bats slave over a hot stove preparing the nosh.

    Sounds ace to me... ahem...
