Batsit was absolutely brilliant thank you. I met up with some old mates and it was lkike no time had passed at all. Here's what I wrote for a paper :-

    THE GREAT LUXY REUNION

The weekend of Friday August the 2nd (2-08) saw the once great 208 Radio Luxembourg rise like a Phoenix from the ashes again as DJ’s and staff from that radio station descended on The Grand Duchy of Luxembourg. Over the stations 75 years of History it has seen many personalities of the broadcasting world emerge as house hold names.

Friday night was the first night of celebrations as we met at the Italia Restaurant. It was literally like a Who’s Who from radio and celebrations went well into the early hours. The big night was on Saturday when the Gala reached its peak as DJ’s relived the stations past with many anecdotes (most un-broadcastable) and recordings of past years seeing the light of day once again. One special moment was a mention of our sadly departed friends like Jack Jackson, Muriel Young, Don Moss, Stuart Henry, Dave Eastwood, Chris Cary (Spangles Muldoon) Alan ’Fluff Freeman and Barry Alldis who’s widow the elegant Fern made a very welcome guest. Due to prior commitments some unfortunately couldn’t make it and recorded greetings were sent by Pete Murray, Rob Jones, Neil (Dr) Fox, Jimmy Savile, Chris Moyles, Steve Wright and Noel Edmonds.

Come Sunday Morning it was time for emotional goodbyes when we all made our way home as we saw our very happy radio family once again disintegrate but making a strong vow that this wouldn’t be the last time. In our minds 208 Radio Luxembourg would live on.

Glad you had a great time, Earl!

In 1964, my brother took me to see a 'Friday Spectacular' with Muriel Young and Shaw Taylor - it was brilliant and, because I was very young (9 yrs old), I was really looked after, especially by Muriel and Shaw.

The Downliners Sect, Gene Vincent and Johnny Kidd & The Pirates were on that night - the latter being the nicest people I have EVER met in that profession.....I sat on Johnny Kidd's lap for ages and they didn't just autograph my book, they all wrote something in it! Gene Vincent ran off before anybody could catch him!

We also met Ronan O'Casey and his 'then' wife - I assume it was Louie Ramsay.

The tickets were free - you just applied and waited your turn - and they really gave you a good evening out; I've never forgotten it.

    DS x.

    Hi Earl,

That takes me back a bit

thanks for the link to the album.

Those days of 208 were a part of our history?

I can't believe how well Kid Jensen looks

Like the Dame, I went to a recording.....TOTP at Lime Grove. Studio was really small and had two sound stages, as I recall. The audience were marshalled around from one to the other.

The Kinks, The Hollies, The Nashville Teens.

    Good times

Thanks for this Earl. I didnt listten to Luxy on a regular basis until I was eleven in 1971, when I would listen on my ITT KB transistor radio. In those days I think the lineup was Mark Wesley, Paul Burnett, Bob Stewart, Kid Jenson and Tony Prince. I got to learn about Luxy in the fifties and sixties by hearing the memories of my older brothers, who would frequently mention Horace Bachelor.

I do recall Mike Read and Rob Jones making their debut on Luxy circa 1977.

One of my earliest memroies of hearing Luxy was about 1964 when it would be piped in by Redifusion when BBC 2 was off the air.

I am sure that I also heard the French serivce on the telly as well, if memory serves me right, I was very young then though.
