Drugs, medicines, pharmaceuticals...........terminology eh?
I have no need to look up statins. I know what they are, as do many lay people
There is no "e" on the end of lipid.........unless your are French in which it becomes lipide, or lipides, plural
NHS budgets are becoming less of an influence. The first statin to come "off patent" is Simvastatin resulting in reduced costs; others will follow in time.
name='Bernardo']My last word, I prefer the movie options on this forum I go to the RPSGB for a medical chinwag.
Can we all hold you to that? Please?
You've already gone on record, in the Members Only section, expressing your dislike for this "Off Topic" area, yet, according to your stats, ten of your twenty-five most recent postings have been made here
This is also my last word on this. Unless of course any forum members wish to discuss further the flu jabs, as I'm sure the author of this thread had intended.
Enjoy your time on the RPSGB site![]()

I've never had a Flu jab, not because I'd have to pay for it but People I know who have had seem to go down with an exceptionally heavy Cold shortly after, when I had indoor jobs in the early/mid 80's I had two bouts of Bed-bound Influenza, but since having outdoor jobs since late 80's I haven't had it once.......I wonder if there's something in that?![]()

How many people were you in contact with in your indoor job and how many are you in contact with in your outdoor job? Influenza is an infectious virus. You need to catch it from somebody (or something).
Steve
Another reason my bloke felt he ought to have it - he works in a museum and comes into contact with the public and visiting school/college/university groups on a daily basis. Likewise, in his last job, he was always working with touring performers and, as any performers on here will tell you, taking time off if you're poorly with 'a bug' isn't an option - you just have to carry on and pass it on to whoever you come into contact with.
Me? I work in a library but don't usually come into that much contact with the public (I work behind the scenes). It's been like this for four years and I haven't really had much in the way of coughs and colds whilst I've been in this job. Before that, though, I worked in schools, colleges and youth clubs, and I used to get everything going.
My bloke has been reliably informed that the flu jab can't actually give you a dose of flu. If you come down with it shortly after the jab, then it was probably there anyway.

Flu jabs don't suit everybody but I think everyone should have the right to have one - in recent years, thanks to the government, that ain't so.
I had my first flu jab when I was working in industry in my 20's. We had a large "Peggy Mount" Sister in charge of the works surgery and, if she said you had to have one, you had one! Since then I've had one every year. I've never experienced any ill effects and never had a nasty dose of the flu - although, as mentioned above, I appreciate that ain't the same for everybody.
Having ended employment with larger organisations (with in-house occupational health) over a decade ago, it natuarally fell that I went to my local GP for a jab. Half a dozen or so years ago I found that this avenue was closed to me. I was not considered old enough or sick enough to be allowed one.
So the alternative was to pay for one at Asda or Boots - always assuming your local branch offered this service which, if you live in the sticks, too often means a journey of up to 60 miles each way to find a branch that does.
As a carer, my salvation came a couple of years ago, when the government grudgingly decided that carers could have flu jabs. But I end this as I started - flu jabs should be freely available to all who want them.

My mother is 88 with COPD and she is entitled to a flu jab - but they actually make her quite poorly and so she refuses it now.
