    The big post at the end of the handrail (banister) on a staircase.









    Although strictly speaking, the banisters are really the small pillars that hold up the handrail, but it is also used for the handrail itself

    Thanks for the info Steve, it's true what they say, you learn something everyday.........that's a lovely watercolour, living in a house built in 1968 there's no newell-post unfortunately just plain, boring straight lines



    I don't think I'd fancy attempting to insert myself into that tube, I'd probably get stuck halfway!

    It reminds me of Our Rog sliding down the bannister in Octopussy,only to machine gun the Newell Post at the end.
