name='hhhhancock']Well I certainly care, being involved in British politics for over 30 years now I've seen a gradual erosion of democracy in OUR country and I think we should all be concerned.
No you haven't. When was it any different?

Maybe you've just gradually realised over those 30 years that the average man or woman in the street can make very little difference. But that was always the case

I'm afraid I have not been wrong but I'm not going to try and convince you or argue so let there be a end of it - PLEASE.

name='Mark O']It's not a case of 'not bothered' about it h, it's more a case of what we ordinary people can do about it.........which is absolutely nothing, hence the apathy.

All we can do is vote for the party that appeals to the individual in us once every five years, and we've a choice of Labour or Tory for Government and thats it, we just have to tolerate whomever has been elected.

    'Twas ever thus.

I think Alan Duncan this week is a taste of what the Tories are trying to keep a lid on. Once in power, I think you're in for some disappointment.

name='hhhhancock']How do we all feel about Lord M. being in charge of our country while Gordon is off on his hols?

Particularly as the said Lord is unelected, is this another erosion of our so called democracy?

Mandelson in charge of the country? God forbid! I wouldn't trust him as far as I could throw him. His dodgy dealings in the past don't inspire any confidence..

Why? Of course, this government has made mistakes and done things I don't approve of - but far fewer of each than the wide boys, spivs and *ankers who were in power for most of the previous twenty years. The problems of the last couple of years have been brought about by reckless action in the US - and actions which would have been wholly supported by the previous government.

Still, if you look forward to the likes of Duncan and that despicable Hannan in power so be it - leopards don't change their spots

Of course, there is no guarantee who the next government maybe. Labour might get back in. The Liberal Democrats might spring a surprise and Nick Cleggover might be the occupant of number 10. UKIP may get the majority of the Commons and whoever it is might become PM. The BNPmight win - God forbid. The electorate, tired and sickened by all parties may choose a body of Independents and Esther Rantzen may be our second woman Prime Minister.

David Cameron and the Conservatives aren't on the sure footing that Margaret Thatcher had thirty years ago,so they can't afford to be complacent nor put with idiots like Duncan and Hannan.

I don't sense any appetite for putting Tories back in, and no-one wants to be ruled by toffs these days, but Labour definitely needs time out to regroup. It can't go on as it is.

    Indeed.

I have to admit that I much prefer GB to TB but he has proved to be more of an administrator than a politician. Like him or not, TB was a very astute politician.

What I have never been able to understand is not politicians but the public. It is completely beyond my comprehension how someone, and plenty do, can say that X has been in power for long enough, it's time to give Y a chance when their philosophies are diametrically opposed.

As a socialist, hell would freeze over before I would vote for a party of the right - it's bad enough voting for New Labour Much of what the Lib Dems say I could accept, though even they are looking to do a volte face on student loans - although having been expelled by the old Liberal Party, I don't suppose they'd accept an unrepentant socialist in their ranks

I really liked this government for its first two terms, but Blair lost all influence after he won his third term and it hasn't felt like Labour has had any direction since then.

You know, Fell, you really ought to start READING posts before you fire off a reply to them!

I made absolultely NO indication as to my political leanings and who I would like in power - I merely made a comment on the fact that there is a major element of 'pots calling kettles black' when people whinge about the last government when this one really hasn't done any better.

As for leopards not changing spots - I have realised that for the last 12 years, thanks.

I think Fell's reply was more in general than directed at one specific person. If you don't mind me taking us off-topic for one moment I have to ask this, who is that woman in Mark O's avatar? I am experiencing sexual attraction towards her.

Yes - I usually use "one" rather than "you" when speaking generally but missed it this time. My apologies
