i was working for a car rental firm about 15 years ago and when i was out sean connery came in because he had been given a vauxhall omega [ probably via his secretary ] but couldnt get his golf clubs in .

a young lad i worked with changed cars for him and gave him the rundown on the various features of the new one before seeing him off with " and try and bring it back in one piece bond " as he drove away ......brilliant ! he was quite a star for the next couple of weeks that kid after that quip .

thing was it could just have easily been me if i hadnt have nipped out

ever missed meeting one of your idols like that ?

Valerie Hobson. She and Lord Profumo collected a chair or two from a furniture-restoring neighbour when I was out at work....

Jack Douglas at the NEC, unfortunately we were out of time and had to head home and didn't see where he was until the very last minute as we were leaving

I was in a cafe in London and thought I knew the bloke wearing a floppy hat sitting two tables away, but wasn't sure so I didn't speak. As this chap left the cafe, the cafe owner said 'goodbye Mr Steiger'. Yep, it was Rod.

David Tennant who was at my local cinema/theatre filming the Daleks in New York story.

Annoying as the lucky ones (little kids mostly and my kids missed out) got a full feature in the local newspaper after getting his autograph.

Ironic too because as a small child I went to see the 2 1960's Dalek movies (starring the late great Peter Cushing in the lead role) on many occasions at that cinema. Okay that was during the early 1970's when the films were released again.

So after seeing them on the big screen there, the Daleks actually appeared on the stage there almost 40 years later.

I was sitting in a dark corner of a theatre in London watching a rehearsal for a charity fundraiser (in about 1990) when this striking looking man wandered in with a little girl in tow. A bunch of people rushed over and oo-ed and ahh-ed at him but I thought to myself 'Ah, leave the poor guy alone'..... And so I missed my chance to meet Dave Gilmour.

I also saw Suggs from Madness in a coffee shop, but he looked as hung over as I was so I let him have his cappucino in peace.

There's others - but if I go into them, I'll only spend the rest of the day banging my head against a wall thinking what an idiot I am.

Back in 1984 whilst on a family holiday in Southbourne (I was only 17 years old at the time), me and my mother spotted John Clive walking along the street in Bournemouth.

My mother spotted him, even though he was wearing dark sunglasses and he clocked that we recognised him and he just hurried away.

He was appearing in a stage show there at the time, so it was definitely him.
