Amy Sergeant wrote this rather good book on British Cinema (though it is rather disconcerting when one picks up a factual error [or two....] within five minutes of opening the book...so Amy might need a more mature 'fact checker' !

I think Amy is from Birkbeck, University of London.....

Yes, I saw that book when I added her brief bibliography to the publication alert, but Amazon doesn't have a "see inside this book" for it. Alas. And I wasn't going to buy just for a sample of Sargeant's writing. :-)

Which factual errors did you find, Julian?

    Best,

    Barbara

Unfortunately, I only borrowed it from the library, so I do not have the book to hand.......

Amy might appreciate a Bogarde/Losey expert checking through the MS for possible errors before publication (but on the other hand, she might not....!)

It would be interesting to know what process the BFI takes a manuscript through before publication. If it's a matter of an incorrect date or word spelling in the book on British Cinema, that may be a problem of editing. I have friends who submit a pristine manuscript to their publisher and then tear their hair out at the printing errors made in the final printed copy.

As for content, it is the practice of some scholarly journals here to send a manuscript submitted for publication to two or more well-known scholars in the subject area for vetting and comments. But as I mentioned, I don't know how the BFI reviews the content of a ms.
