It's about time I read something on this "dust up". I'm quite fond of Christopher Hibbert, having read three of his other books, but perhaps there is something better. Also am I getting too much historical information from the same source ? Any Suggestions ?

Both versions of Henry V, the one by Olivier and the one by Branagh. They both have points of interest and things to recommend them.

Also, the "War Walks" episode about Agincourt by the recently deceased Prof. Richard Holmes.

Thanks Steve, am very familiar with both Henry V's, thus my interest in the actual battle. I was hoping I posted under "publications" as I am looking for a book !

Longbow by Robert Hardy is a good read. Yes, and it is that Robert Hardy.

Longbow: A Social and Military History: Amazon.co.uk: Robert Hardy: Books

I have a first edition of this, purchased for me as a birthday present many years ago.

Cheers Chevy and Nick, think I'll go with Bennett, he's at Sandhusrt and appears to be a Medieval specialist. The Longbow has gone on the ever expanding "to read" list.

If you are also interested in fiction about that period's wars, Conan Doyle wrote The White Company, a military group's stories set a little earlier in 1366-67. An overlooked forgotten book that is a good read.

The Dark Avenger (1955) - IMDb
Movie-goers got full value for their box-office shilling in this film. Errol is in almost every scene. The film opens with the ending of a war between England and France. A truce has been reached and peace is meant to reign. I won't go into the politics, but in this movie, the French Nobles are unhappy that the son of Edward III is a fair-minded fellow who tells the French peasantry that they no longer have to pay unreasonable taxes and perform other onerous duties for their aristocracy. The Nobles decide to rebel, and break the truce. Leading this treachery is Peter Finch's 'Count d' Evil'..... Viewers are left in no doubt as to which side to be on! Any doubts are settled when d'Evil sends men under-cover to try and assassinate the English prince. The plot is foiled, with the help of sturdy man-at-arms, McGoohan, who clashes steel with the bad guys as he defends his principal man. As the plot is averted, Flynn rides out with an expeditionary force, seeking revenge and to bring the evil one to justice.

    All roads lead to somewhere............
