Bill Bryson's Notes from a Small Island has a chapter on his days as a scab during the Wapping dispute though apparently he gets a bit embarassed about it when it comes up in interviews now.
Currently reading Dean's book on her time with Sogat which of course includes the year long dispute with Murdoch over Wapping, in which Murdoch moved his printing stuff over one weekend to Wapping and sacked 5,000 workers in the process.
Dean was Sogat's rep and there is some very interesting stuff in it, eye witness accounts of the battles outside Wapping in which, amongst other things, a 19 year old was knocked over and killed by one of Murdoch's Thug drivers for TNT. Also lots of other stuff during the dispute - she also says the Torching of TNT depots was wrong , and didnt help them at all, but interestingly the fires were front page on Murdoch's papers but the murder of a youth were not; hmm, there's a surprise.
Dean also talks about the unions in general, good/bad and her subsequent jobs since she was outted by Dubbins her successor in 1991.
Excellent read on trade unions too.
