Indeed, although the A-Z of Carry On has probably covered this subject but may be well worth a stocking filler. Coming soon is this Carry On related book which offers something a little different.

A lovely tribute to the ladies of the Carry On series. Thanks for posting Jim!

Looking forward to all the upcoming books. Think it might be time to watch the whole set of films again. Well, not Columbus, obviously.

Nor Carry On England for my money. I actually watched Carry On Columbus again recently to see it age had improved it. It had not.

Andy's book will be well worth the wait - he knows his stuff and has been taking great pains with the tome...

Review: 'Carry on Actors' by Andrew Ross (Apex Publishing)

Classic British humour was the inspiration for a North-East teacher's first published book.

Andrew Ross has written a definitive guide to every actor who has ever appeared in a Carry On film or television show.

'Carry on Actors' was a labour of love for Mr. Ross, who works at Parkside School in Willington, County Durham. He was born in Bishop Auckland, but emigrated to Australia with his family at the age of 11. While Down Under he carried out some film and television research and wrote to actors who had appeared in Carry On films.

"I got some really nice letters back and that inspired me to write some more," said Mr. Ross. "I got lots of anecdotes about the films and information about the actors and that's when I thought this should be in a book."

Mr. Ross, who returned to the North-East in 2003, finished the book ten years ago, but could not find a publisher. However, he continued to update the details and is now thrilled to see his work in print.

The 547 actors featured are split into two sections - the main team and supporting actors - which include detailed accounts of their careers.

Mr. Ross has four favourite Carry On films - UP THE KHYBER, CAMPING, ABROAD and SCREAMING - but would not reveal the name of his favourite actor.

What specifically is Andy's book about?

Does he have behind the scenes info not previously written about?

The thinking fan's guide to the Carry On films

Coming February 2012 from Miwk Publishing

The Carry On films have delighted audiences around the world for over 50 years. Saucy yet subtle, crude but never lewd, the Carry Ons really are the very best of British.

From gentle romantic comedies, through innuendo, double- (and single-) entendre to an all-too-brief dalliance with alternative comedy in the 1990s, the Carry Ons and the people who made them have become cultural icons and household names.

But how well do you really know our most beloved comedy institution?

Carry On Confidential is the thinking fan's guide to the Carry Ons, taking a fresh look at these classic British comedies. A unique spotter's guide with something new for even the most seasoned devotees, Carry On Confidential is packed with trivia, bloopers and gaffes, spin-offs and collectibles and a comprehensive guide to the locations used in every film.

You'll fall in love with the Carry Ons all over again.

Hello! Thanks to smudge for the kind words. I ran the Carry On Line website for 15 years, so I guess you could say I know my stuff . The book's out in February, but last week I released a preview chapter, which gives a pretty good idea of the format for the film section of the book. I also then go on to cover the various TV projects, documentaries and spin-offs, stage productions and a few other bits. The book's currently on its third round of proofreading and we're on target for the publication target.

If you'd like to read the preview chapter, you can find it at Carry on Confidential by Andy Davidson - Miwk Publishing Ltd

If anyone would like to know more, I'll be happy to help.

I'm reliably informed that both books may well be winging their way to our house in due course - very much looking forward to them too.
