Forgive the blatant plug. My forthcoming book is being discussed in another thread and I thought members would like to know more:

    Carry On Confidential
the thinking fan's guide to the Carry On films

Published Feb 2011 by Miwk Publishing.

    Here's the blurb:

The Carry On films have delighted audiences around the world for over 50 years. Saucy yet subtle, crude but never lewd, the Carry Ons really are the very best of British.

From gentle romantic comedies, through innuendo, double- (and single-) entendre to an all-too-brief dalliance with alternative comedy in the 1990s, the Carry Ons and the people who made them have become cultural icons and household names.

But how well do you really know our most beloved comedy institution?

Carry On Confidential is the thinking fan's guide to the Carry Ons, taking a fresh look at these classic British comedies. A unique spotter's guide with something new for even the most seasoned devotees, Carry On Confidential is packed with trivia, bloopers and gaffes, spin-offs and collectibles and a comprehensive guide to the locations used in every film.

You'll fall in love with the Carry Ons all over again.

Preview chapter available now!Click here to visit the publisher's website and download a sample chapter from the book, covering Carry On Constable.

Just been and followed your links - the book looks really interesting - a must have for any 'Carry on' fan. I much preferred the earlier films - pre Barbara Windsor - and have collected 'Sergeant, Constable, Cabby, Nurse, Cruising, Convenience, and Up the Khyber' am not bothered about the others. I will certainly buy a couple of copies of your book though - they will make great gifts for a couple of friends.

Thanks Nimuae. You've got four of my absolute favourites in that list: Cabby, Cruising, Convenience and Khyber. I love them all, with the sole exception of Carry On England, but those four are up there among the very best.

Hope you enjoy the book. It's been a real labour of love.

Carry On Confidential and Maximum Power are both off to the printers early next week. One will be a little early, one will be a little late.

Agreed - I have no idea who the one above Bernie Bresslaw is meant to be... Bob Hoskins?

Interested in the location site symbols (hieroglyphics?) - are those live links? Do you scan them or something?

  13. #13
Yes, they're QR links. If you scan them with your phone they'll take you to the location via Google maps or your satnav. I've tested it out and it can make for a fun day if you visit the pubs along the way.

I'm organising a location walk in Windsor in March which will be fuelled by the book
