Fellow Brit James Fox was also considered, but Craig said: “He would have been very young and he was quite religious and didn’t like the violence and the sex so he turned it down for that reason.
I would have thought 22 a far more likely age for physical derring-do than the ages of some old fogeys playing the part......

Interesting, though James Fox himself took part in in Donald Cammell's ultra violent (for 1968) Performance, in which he and Tony Valentine as rival gangsters fought hell for leather with each other. Fox ending up with a black eye and Valentine with a bruised cheekbone.
After Performance though Fox turned his back on acting for nearly ten years to work for religious based charities.
