I enjoyed all three books .... and the three films based on them. I hope the remake is as good as the original.
Why have they re-made this!!! The three films are a great trilogy, are there that many people who won't watch dubbed, or subtitled films that it needs re-making....
Well, maybe not so if the original versions were properly marketed but film companies have a vested interest in using original foreign language films almost as teasers for their own hollywood version. I will not be watching this remake. No one can match Noomi Rapace's performance.
Noomi Rapace was brilliant in all three films and I will be surprised in Rooney Mara is as good, but I won't be able to say for certain until I actually see the film, which I will, because I am intrigued to see what Fincher will do with it. Also, I don't have a negative view of this type of remake in general, some of them are actually pretty good. For example, the remake of Insomnia was a very different animal to the Scandinavian original and is a fine film in it's own right.
I didn't realize that they had been filmed before - all the hype seemed to suggest that this was a first - not a remake. Will look out for the originals - I don't mind sub titles.
This rather good boxset is available ....

By claiming you don't bother with remakes you are missing out on some very good films ... although you must watch them occasionally, otherwise how would you have formulated your views about the Insomnia remake.

I did see Insomnia, it was unremarkable compared to the original, especially coming from Christopher Nolan. After the wonderful Memento he decides to do a remake which added nothing to a story that was expertly told the first time!!!

Apparently, it is an original new adaptation of the novel - not a remake of the Swedish film.
I think the original Insomnia does have a slight edge over Nolan's version because it does not have to rely on 'star power' via Pacino to get it's point across. However, Nolan's version is still a superior film to Memento. I thought Memento was a one-trick film which doesn't stand more than one viewing. IMHO Insomnia is by far Nolan's best film, it is atmospheric and suspenseful and ticks all the right thriller boxes. His other films are pretty ordinary with his two 'Batman' films being grossly over-rated. The Dark Knight is more like a Roger Moore 'James Bond' film than a 'Batman' film.
Still not convinced, although I did see the remake of Sleuth (which was awful) only because I was interested in seeing Caine play the Olivier role. As TGWTDT is based on a book I guess there may be some leeway given, but when I watched the original I didn't think, god I bet an American remake would be good.
