Hello Everybody.

Does anyone know of some Newspaper/magazine publications that may contain details about the Newsreel Films - Ace Cinemagazines made and distributed by Ace Films Ltd during 1937 and 1938.

If the Publication Titles are known to me, I will then try to follow up, and hopefully find more about these 'Lost' Films, as there are two of these items particularly that I want to find info.

As you're in London, the BFI Library in Stephen Street is the place to go. Kinematograph Weekly on microfilm, others in bound volumes. Today's Cinema was a daily paper aimed at the trade in the late '30's, worth a look...there will be others, the staff are incredibly knowledgeable and helpful. I think it's a fiver a day for non-members, if you have a lot of trips planned, get a membership. Give them a ring for confirmation and opening times, etc. Oh, and a book called 'Films of Comment and Persuasion, by Rachel Lowe, (?930-?1939) may prove useful from the business angle.

Thanks for the reply and the few leads to follow up. I did visit the BFI Library a year ago trying to find info about the 2 Titles - 'Sticking to Facts (Series 2)' and 'Wood You Believe It (Series 3)', however the written details I took along with me, were actually more than they knew, or could even find - so they refunded my entrance fee. I might still try again sometime - perhaps I may be lucky.

I am still hoping to actually locate copies of the films, but some how I don't think they exist.

Sometimes the only way is to go through the volumes cover to cover...
As for their existence, these are exactly the sort of titles that went into commercial Film Libraries, and thence to private collectors when they closed down..... try contacting Patrick Moules, who edits 'Flickers' for the Vintage Film Circle, at novascope@aol.com and tell him what you know and what you seek....but don't be too surprised if he wants an article out of you....!!

Thanks - Not heard of the Vintage Film Circle, at novascope@aol.com - I shall definitely contact them and also have a closer look at various publications etc.
