Default My book: BEACHED MARGIN

Hello,

I'm pleased to announce the release of my book 'Beached Margin: the role and representation of the seaside resort in British films'. Here's a brief description:

"Beached Margin investigates the exploitation of the British seaside holiday resort as a setting for film productions, examining the reasons why this environment has appealed to filmmakers and what particular qualities and characteristics specific to seaside spaces lend themselves to cinema."

You can preview the book (and for that matter buy a copy if you're interested!) through this link:

Beached Margin by Jez Conolly (Book) in Entertainment

I'm keen to get the word around about the book so if any forum members feel like passing these details on to anyone else they think might be interested in the book then please do so.

I'd also like to mention my father's book 'Up in the Gods - from showtime to wartime and back again' - here's the blurb:

"Which is more terrifying: sitting in the rear gun turret of a Lancaster Bomber while being shot at by the Luftwaffe or trying to control an audience of screaming kids at a Saturday morning ABC Minors' Matinee? One man who might know is Bill Conolly, who in his time served with 156 Pathfinder Squadron and enjoyed a long and successful career managing a number of cinemas. This book will appeal to anyone with an interest in the RAF and cinema history."

Copies available at Up in the Gods by Bill Conolly D.F.M. (Book) in Biographies & Memoirs

If anyone would like more information about the books please email me at jez.conolly@bris.ac.uk

Thanks folks,

Jez

Best wishes for both ventures.

Could you tell me if that is Southport Pier on the cover with Blackpool Tower in the background?

Regards

Freddy

Hi Freddy,

As far as I know it's Southend On Sea - it seemed appropriate as I kick off my intro with a quote from Charlie Chaplin's autobiography about a childhood visit there:

What a day that was – the saffron beach, with its pink and blue pails and wooden spades, its coloured tents and umbrellas, and sailing boats hurtling gaily over laughing little waves, and up on the beach other boats resting idly on their sides, smelling of seaweed and tar – the memory of it still lingers with enchantment.

Lovely stuff! Hope you enjoy the book(s) if you decide to buy one.

Best wishes,

Jez
