BRITISH SOUND FILMS: The Studio Years 1928-1959, by David Quinlan
If you want a solid, reliable reference book [rather than a critical commentary....] this is definitely the one to go for. It is out of print, but Amazon re-sellers [www.amazon.co.uk] or AbeBooks: New Books, Secondhand Books, Rare Books, Out-of-Print Books should have copies..... |

Have a look for a copy of 'The Big Book of British Films' by Robin Cross.
It's meant to be a 'popular' title and provides an excellent overview of everything from studio history to film 'movements' to British film's impact internationally to... Cross is an intelligent writer, both clever and accessible. He also has good sense of humour and tart tongue - used when needed. I sought out four of his film history titles and found them where I find most used books - ABEBOOKS.COM or ALIBRIS.COM. These sites broker for tens of thousands of independent used book stores worldwide. Good luck. |
