Yes, it wasn't just actors that relied on lodging houses back then. Think of The Ladykillers and London Belongs to Me. They all use what are effectively lodging houses. Bedsits became more popular in the 1960s when it was realised that people leaving home could look after themselves (even men could) and you got things like The Liver Birds

Thanks very much for the confidence. Anyway, I can let you all know that we are currently finalising second proofs and that the book is on schedule to be published in June. It's taken a long time to get to this stage - and believe me, it's been very eventful - but I think its been worth it. Miss Fritton I presume I must know you under some other name! If anyone runs a film society and wants me along to give a talk, then please let me know and I'll see what I can do. Regards to all.
