There are some, like [ame=http://www.amazon.co.uk/Encyclopedia-British-Film-Methuen/dp/0413773019/ref=sr_1_8?ie=UTF8&s=books&qid=1223847894&sr=1-8]The Encyclopedia of British Film[/ame] by Brian McFarlane (and others)

But I prefer to use the electronic forms like the Internet Movie Database (IMDb) or the BFI's Screenonline database

It is very good - but books on film quickly go out of date and don't include the latest films whereas the IMDb and Screenonline can be kept up to date

It doesn't matter, because I'm most interested in old ones, the only actual directors I like are Stephen frears, Peter Greenaway....

Moon, the book Steve mentions is a very good introduction to British cinema and is a very handy work of reference that you can dip into and out of all the time.

This might make a good Christmas present - there is quite a lot of new content since the 1st edition in 2003....

The Encyclopedia of British Film (4th Edition) is due out on 3rd November 2011....

The cheapest price on-line I have seen is at WH Smith on-line, reduced to £16.49....cheaper than Amazon.co.uk

    Here is the link:
The Encyclopedia of British Film Brian McFarlane | WHSmith.co.uk

You can only get this price if you order on-line, not in WH Smith stores.

The price is frozen when you order - If the price goes up on Nov 3rd (publication date) you do not pay more

Delivery is free - to home, or collect from your local W H Smith store - choose this when you place the order

Just make sure they give you the 4th edition and not an earlier one !

Books, eBooks, Stationery, Gifts & Cards | FREE Delivery on orders over £15 | WHSmith

Have they corrected the errors in the articles on both Basil Radford and Naunton Wayne?

The editor might be able to advise you on this - the email address at the end of the Preface...
