Hi folks
I wonder if I can alert you to an exciting new book, coming out in March, called THE SHEPPERTON STORY which is the exhaustive history of the famous studios, told through the eyes of the folks who know it best - those that worked there.
With a Foreword by Leslie Gilliat, the huge 300 page book contains 150 photos (some never before published) and the author (that's me!) had access to such treasure troves as The Boulting Brothers Archive, British Lion Archive, Launder & Gilliat and interviewed over 100 technicians, actors, producers and directors.
In the mould of the earlier published THE PINEWOOD STORY, (and not be a glossy £45 coffee table self-published job by the studio) the SHEPPERTON STORY will be an anecdotal, detailed and complete history of the studios - and even credits previously uncredited British films from the 1930s to the studio thanks to research material obtained from the Department Of Trade.
Pre-order is available on Amazon.

Sounds like an excellent buy!![]()
Is this the same version that was proffered for sale at about £15 a couple of years ago in 'The Bookworks'?
No, this is a brand new book ... published in March 2009.
There was one published about 3 or 4 years ago, authored by Morris Bright, which was a pictorial coffee-table type book (which was in fact self-published by the studio, in a roundabout way).
Check out The Pinewood Story if you want a flavour of this one!
Can you confirm that LONDON TOWN (1946) was the only (and last) film made at 'Sound City ' (as on film credits) after the end of WW2 ?
London Town was indeed the only film made at Shepperton in 1946, and afterwards Alexander Korda took control of the studio and it stopped being known as 'Sound City'.
Has anyone read this book yet? I'm looking for a firsthand account of this period in British film-making, rather than an academic approach to the story. This one seems to fit.
