name='Mark O']I was always under the impression actors were paid to play the part of a character as in the script, not to dictate what is and what isn't in the make-up of that character.
Actors (even well known ones) still have to audition to get roles, or at least have contract negotiations. If Finch liked the idea of being in the show, but wasn't happy about certain aspects of it, he (or his agent) has the right to request changes. It is no different from a regular job interview where you haggle over wages and holidays et al. Obviously the producers of the show didn't like Finch's suggestions so hired someone who was more in agreement with the show's premise.![]()
