Looking at the thousands of laserdiscs here (and thinking of all the posters, books, discs and other stuff stored away), I think I know how you felt. But I still wish I hadn't periodically sold off my record collection; who'd have thought I'd want to listen to all that '77 punk stuff again?!

Harry Warner Jr (the American science-fiction fan and author of the nostalgic book "All Our Yesterdays") once said that he'd never thrown anything away that he hadn't regretted sooner or later. I suspect many of us feel the same.

My only serious regret - and I regret it every day - is parting with a mint first edition of Casino Royale. I bought it around 1982 for £400 and the book dealer kindly allowed me to pay in monthly instalments and visit and admire it any time I liked. I was so proud of it when it finally became my own, on my shelf. Then I sort of got disillusioned with the whole first ed. thing, and sold off things like a signed Clockwork Orange to John Baxter for a song. Then Casino Royale was taken to LA and there I parted company with it. I heard later that Pierce Brosnan bought it. I thought I got a great price but now I think it fetches over £20,000! House prices tumble, oil tumbles, Bond keeps on going up.
