I have also ordered my copy of this book from Amazon this morning. I can't wait to get stuck in. It's about time the british B movie genre was given some justifiable praise considering that it was staple of the film industry for so many years and despite critics often rubbishing these films it's surprising to note that there are some very good and well made b-films/quota quickies to be found. Odeon Cinema have continued to release more films from this genre and it would be great if BBC4 could show another season celebrating the British b-film/quota quickie genre.

I feel your pain the company known as 'Home Delivery Not Work' as expected failed to deliver my copy, apparently I'm living at an 'Incorrect Address' which I was previously unaware of. Something of a miracle then that all other courier films and the RM manage to deliver items without problem. The second time I've had problems with this bunch

Amazon are such a good company but it really puts you off dealing with them knowing the 'Russian Roulette' delivery system means something could fall into the hands of this bunch. A quick Google displays numerous tales of HDN woe, naturally two recent Amazon orders were delivered swiftly by Royal Mail.

For those who have rec'd this, did it have a dust jacket? Mine arrived today sans DJ and with minor spine damage. But being one who was always taught to treat books with respect, this will prob be going back...

    Gertcha!!!

When I ordered it hardback was the only option available...

So nobody else went for it then? Bugga!!

EDIT: Before our 'courting' days - many moons ago now - Mrs. Smudge was SERIOUSLY impressed when I came back into the office after lunch with the latest hardback copy of Halliwell's Film Guide in tow. Just goes to show you what good having something big, hard and bright orange can do for you....!

Give 'em their due, after expecting me to sign for a single DVD (?????) all of my other Amazon HDN deliveries haven't been so bad. It's Amazon's packaging that often does for books. As for the DJ, well gawd knows what happened there - am awaiting comments from Amazon (holds breath).

name='orpheum']thanks for that i have been waiting for the publication of this book.Who would have ever thought sitting in the stalls in the ABC or Odeon in the 50s and 60s looking at some crime film starring Russell Napier or Charles Tingwall that one day a book would be issued by the BFI on these type of films.

I would have thought it if I was old enough! I used to look forward to the second feature and why is difficult to put into words. They were often British so I could identify and often mysteries or cop shows well edited for the time they had been given but more than that.

Further to my ordering the book last week I received an email from Amazon this morning saying that their supplier has notified them that there is a delay obtaining stock of the book. Can't have sold out already!!
