Is this recording available anywhere ? it used to be played quite a lot in the early 60s. I have numerous comedy compilations but I never been able to get this one. Its ironical that her husband actor John Thaw died of throat cancer. Could this be why its unavailable?

Sheila also lost her mother and first husband Alec Ross to cancer and is a cancer survivor herself.

Isn't it actually called My Last Cigarette? There are MP3s of it around on the interwebs - it's by renowned folkie Sydney 'Lord of the Dance' Carter.

INSPIRED by this post, I looked for it on ebay ... and here it is! What a fantastic cover! If it was a tenth of the price, I'd put a bid in.

I've heard Sheila Hancock's version of this song played on Sounds of the 60's on Radio 2 a couple of times over the years.

I don't have Sheila Hancock's version but I do have the 1965 Parlophone single release by The Roulettes.

Incidentally, if you do wish to purchase Sheila Hancock's 1963 Decca release of My Last Roulette there are copies available at a reasonable proce on Netsounds. If you gogole Netsounds and then type in Sheila Hancock it will bring up the names of the record buyers who are selling this single. I have bought some vinyl from Netsounds over the years and it's a great place to get hold of some rare vintage records. Good luck

Not so, Philip... it wasn't throat cancer, it was cancer of the oesophagus, which is not necessarily caused by smoking. Very often -- perhaps more often, I don't know -- it is caused by untreated GORD.

(I have this condition myself. It's very common.)

Her first husband died of the same cancer, which must have been unbelievably hard for her.

I wonder if Sheila likes the fact she's a modern day "sleb" now, what with the Dorothy thing on TV?! A mixed blessing, but she's a great actress and personality and deserves to have a new fan base.

And thanks to you! I'll keep looking for it, and when it approaches my budget, I shall pounce. But not violently enough to break the record or crease the cover.
